Again?

I know this was actually a semi-common occurrence before recently, but damn this is just begging for a whole top-down restructuring if we just have to expect this many train derailments as part of like, normal activity.

The only real way to fix this country...is more tax cuts for the rich. Cut those pesky regulations too.

Nationalize the rail system already. If the private companies can't bother upgrading their infrastructure then they should give it up.

There's something like 1500 train derailments a year which seems like an absurd number.

In 2022, there were more than 1,000 train derailments in the U.S.

There were at least 1,164 train derailments across the country last year, according to data from the Federal Railroad Administration. That means the country is averaging roughly three derailments per day.
of course this gets more news focus now due to recency bias and what happened in Ohio

Amtrak never died. It's just continuously zombied along, pretty much since it began in the 70s.

Kill of the long routes to nowhere, and double down on the Boston-DC line. That's how to defuck Amtrak.

IMO "3 derailments a day" tell me there is something that seriously needs to be done here tho. It doesn't matter if its just the Ohio stuff making it more clear - there is still clearly some work that needs to be done across the whole industry.

The same government that has given up on expanding so many public transit subways across the US? I live in NYC I wish MTA was private instead of public and constantly begging for help to fund anything.

3 derailments per day seems like a lot, but Im assuming most dont lead to hazardous material leaks? Or gigantic crashes? I wonder how many of them are super minor occurrences

Regardless, the dangerous derailments as of late are concerning.

It really depends on WHAT derails. If it's just like that Springfield, OH one then, not ideal, but we'll live.

But if something is dumping toxic materials into the soil then it's a problem. We've been having issues with that lately.
