I was thinking how the first couple Metroids did not age well and were, IMO, rightfully and successfully remade. But what about the first couple Zeldas? I would say maybe Ninty has a eyes forward approach for the franchise, but they redid Awakening and constantly do remasters.

Is this something fans want to see done? Or is there more of a leave well enough alone stance?

And if they do it, would you prefer just art and QOL updates? Or more of an overhaul approach from the ground up?

I was thinking recently about what Zelda 2 would be like if it was remade in OOT style. You'd have to add a jump feature but it could be interesting

Not at the same time, I think multiple stories live just makes the main story fall to the wayside

The NES Zeldas haven't aged nearly as poorly as Metroid, but remakes could still be great. There technically was a remake of Zelda 1 for the satelleview. I played a rom of it, it was pretty great.

The weird thing about Zelda one is the sword thrusts instead of swings. Honestly, I would like a remake to try to retain that and balance around it. At the very least make the first sword work that way, so upgrades would change the way you can play. Maybe have the first sword thrust, but the white sword and magic sword can do either. If you thrust with the magic sword, it does 1.5 damage instead, incentivizing but not requiring old school play.

Nah. Id rather they make a new 2D Zelda game than keep on remaking older titles. Links Awakening made sense, but with the Oracle games getting ported to the Switchs online service, I dont think theres a pressing issue for other remakes.

Its been ten years since the last new 2D Zelda game. Were way overdue for a new one.

My ideas for a Zelda II remake

• The overworld is full 3D like a modern Zelda game
• The random battles are 3D arenas; get to the edge of the arena to leave
• Towns, caves and dungeons look like they are in full 3D but Link follows a set on rails path. It is not a fixed 2D left to right perspective though; Link may walk around a room instead of walking straight through a room from entrance to exit.
• You earn rupees instead of experience. You have to go to a town to buy upgrades. You can save and keep rupees you earn. You can buy any upgrade you want at any time you have enough Rupees.

Sure throw it in the pile with all the other superfluous remakes.

Only if Atlus handles them and does them in the style of 3D Dot Game Heroes

Wasn't there a remake of the first game on that internet SNES service in Japan? Surprised they haven't pulled a Star Fox 2 with that.

Zelda 1, no.
Zelda 2 could really use an update.

How would you even remake Zelda 1? It's so basic and empty that you'd have to basically create an entirely new game, and at that point...

A graphical remake ala Link's Awakening in Switch.

Or just make Zelda 1 in the art style of 3D Dot Game Heroes. That game is already Zelda 1 in gameplay.

So people would just want a graphical update? Feels a bit pointless to me, but if that's what people want...

Zelda 1 has been remade, Nintendo could I suppose port their satella view games over. Neither really need remaking.

I don't think someone would remake a sidescroller...

Zelda II is the best one but would not translate well to modern gaming conventions

Zelda I should be remade as a 3D game. Zelda II should use the same unique style but just make it a better game.

At that point they light as well remake all of them into 3D.

I just think it's cool my childhood game of Zelda has had a resurgence of sorts thanks to "randomizers" and YouTube/twitch streamers. Even my 13 yr old Nephew knows all about the game.

Zelda 2 hasn't aged as well, like it's been said. Having a 3d arena for battles (like the Tales games) sounds like an awesome idea.

BotW is as close to a Zelda 1 remake that were going to get.

Its open world, can do dungeons in any order (kind of). BotWs structure is much closer to Zelda 1 than LttP.

Zelda 1 was already remade >_> It's on the SNES

They could both certainly use some QoL but I feel like these are both games where the old graphic style is a huge part of the charm and would not really want to see them remade

When people say remake they mean that the new game keeps the same locations as the original game only with much better graphics.
