But if it ends today there will be many, MANY years of hardships and pain. I don't believe many will make it sadly. And depending on the lengths the goverment is willing to go in order to to reestablish order even less.

And since we have had our modern welfare systems every nation has had them or has failed. So it's either a "you have this or society collapses" or "you have the social systems that came before this or society collapses." No matter how you shake it society dies when you give no reason to be in a society.

A lot of people work and still get government benefits since they dont make enough to provide for themselves/their family. In this way, the government enables the capitalists to continue paying low/minimum wages instead of having to pay a living wage.

Only capitalists nations. Whose wealth generation is enough to sustain said programs. And even then it's not enough considering how quick they are to raise things like retirement age on a regular basis to offset it's increasing cost.

That And society's generally have many more benefits aside from welfare. Like jobs, career, money, wealth, entertainment, and countless conveniences not available elsewhere.

Just as I would prefer to live in a society that would fail to convint someone rather than arrest an innocent for nothing, I'd rather live in a society that prioritizes feeding the starving than punishing those who steal a crust of bread. Because that's what footstamps are; a pittance. If you think a hundred bucks a month for groceries is some sort of wild indulgence that's the rich making you fight your own, someone who isn't much poorer than you, rather than question why the senators who tell you those slackers shouldn't get free health care are all getting it themselves or why their corporate masters all get more personal jets.
