So does being one of the nations that dismantled the slave trade in the West make one awesome? Slavery and indentured servitude were cruel systems that were accepted as a way of life. She's not wrong. I'm not sure how you cancel someone who has been dead for a few hundred years though. I do think it's possible to acknowledge and celebrate the very real accomplishments of historical figures without sugar coating that many were extremely flawed (putting it lightly) individuals.
