I was expecting a bunch of loose threads to be tied up, but instead, we got much of the same kind of filler that the series had been known for especially during the Johto arc. Both Ash and Team Rocket are both continuing on. Speculation is that they are trying to keep the door open to bring them back in case the new anime Horizons flops.
