Because being negative is seen as a virtue. Like, it's almost like the community has convinced itself that a good critical eye is one that is just needlessly and relentlessly negative. If you've enjoyed something, you are a philistine.

Blind faith and mindless hype still outweighs the criticism so it can't matter that much.

Honestly it's my same issue with most media criticism nowadays, extending into movies and TV.

Negativity is kinda just what most people seem to want. Like you said, it's seen as a virtue.

The phrase "I went in wanting to hate this" is very common.

Critics should be used as a rough guide and nothing more. Just to get an idea of what's going on with the game. It can be useful for objective things like bad performance and glitches. But it's wild when people use it in arguments like they've completely adopted their opinions. So much stuff is subjective.

I don't mind watching perspectives I don't agree with though. I just watch people I like and feel they don't have alternative motives to not state their genuine perspective

People think cynicism and negativity as a default make you smart because smart people are often cynical and sound negative to them. But the whole name of the game is being cynical about the right things and at the right time.

When you're reflexively cynical and do it when it's not appropriate, that's just a different type of being dumb.

This attitude exists across many subjects, not just media consumption. I've found it especially annoying in politics and scientific pursuits.

i think it's human nature. we listen to people who whine and complain, and are the loudest. people flock to it, watch it, care about it.

rarely do we care about what people love. how many "top 50" lists do you praise and don't immediately attack, on your own? there's nothing gained from sharing love. doesn't get view, doesn't get clicks, doesn't make money.

I feel like I see excessive positivity a lot more than the reverse, at least on more mainstream websites like Twitter and Reddit.

I actually think that's shifting. Cause now everyone is so critical, negative and depressed that it seems more intelligent to figure out how to be optimistic and happy. Or Im just projecting, cause I personally feel that's more intelligent. And believe me, that's not flattering to me. Im like halfway there, but god damn can I bring down the positive energy of a conversation as well.

I sure as hell hope so. And I actually think so too. It's about being a reality bloomer, not a conspiracy doomer.

i've seen more praise than hate. it seems the only time i see massive hate on some game is after some popular YouTuber(s) hates it. a game like that probably comes out every few months? last one was forespoken idr which game was ok to hate before that tbh

oh it was callisto protocol i think but wasn't as hated as forespoken

tbh i dont get a kick out of hating on games that are already hated by the majority. better to hate on things like hogwarts legacy and re4 remake imo

Lmao if you mean S/V plenty of well deserved criticism has been directed at those games by almost everyone

A brilliant game is hiding under the glitches and performance issues sadly

Weirdly enough, CE of all places is a good environment to discuss games that people have actually played. They'll talk about positive and negative aspects of games. It's an odd contrast to the bulk of this site

It also has plenty of folks that watched a YouTube video and think it's the same. That's usually only with high profile games though
