D&D is full of dark, dangerous circumstances, but there is definitely a long-standing tradition of humor and swashbuckling put there by the players themselves. We are the adventurers. If this movie seems quippy and full of humor, it's because player characters are often like that. The movie seems to capture the essence of an actual campaign just as much as it accurately recreates the world and its elements visually.
