You have to explore and hit each cave to beat the game. Theres probably 0 reason to build a large base because you can build a temporary shelter and be a nomad. And if you spend a lot of time building a large base then it does nothing towards progression.

whats the point of building a base? If it had a blood moon like 7 days to die or something like that it would make sense because you need a good base to survive the night

The game, in general, drove me batshit crazy. The whole difficulty progression, regardless of whether you make any actual advances, did me in.

I think I cleared 3 or 4 caves before saying Im done.

You're completely correct. There's kind of this fundamental issue with survival game designers where most of them understand the mechanics that should be in the game but don't quite understand the different ways to connect the systems depending on the philosophy of the game.

You could always just play the sequel where the game is so glitched you can literally walk from the starting area straight to the end of the game in like 15 minutes using nothing but bundles of sticks in order to clip through terrain.
