we had layoffs two months ago and our stocks aren't so hot.. and I got a 4% raise (so did everyone). My boss's boss said he doesn't think he can do that, and he thinks what I'm getting a competitive amount. I should have brought up salary.com.

But I do beyond what is in my job description for the position I got promoted to, and more than anyone else in my team, who are/were above me.

Shouldn't have signed it right away and thought about it over the weekend, but whatever. Sigh.

Has anyone tried to negotiate their wage during a promotion?

I'm in an industry that gets more when the economy tanks, and I'm not making a lot in a town that doesn't need a lot.

I'm doing okay, in a minor US city where "okay" is pretty damn good.

This is uncanny accurate.
I make websites for trade schools. They get absurd amounts of leads when the economy tanks.

I work in tech, and we were definitely impacted.. But we have a chance to turn it around in the summer if are data is promising.
