Beau is Afraid

Just saw Chris Stuckman's review on it yesterday, and yeah he basically said it's the weirdest thing ever.

Still doesn't look like I'd enjoy this story and all the metaphorical trip.

But did you like it
I wouldnt go so far as to say I liked it but it was worth a watch. Felt a bit too much like a short film that got padded out, and the cinematographic concept, while clever and definitely unnerving, isnt strong enough to carry the film for its entire runtime.

Id compare and contrast it with Lynchs weirder stufflike Lynch, it has a story to tell but is far less concerned with the story than it is with creating a certain vibe for its audience to experience; unlike Lynch, who creates terror by showing us horrifying things and refusing to let us look away, Skinamarink more often opts to angle the camera away from whatever action is happening in the scene, almost as if threatening to show us what we dont want to see. In this way it is very good at creating incredibly tense moments, but I think that the conceit wears thin after a while.

I'm not sure how I could quantify that and considering I intentionally do seek out "strange" films I'm not sure I could even list it.

Off the top of my head I guess my goto example would be House, the Japanese 1977(?) """horror""" movie.
okay I just watched this (it's on Criterion) and... yeah. real weird

Ohh yeah yeah actually that was mentioned in the review I saw now that I recall. He said how the camara literally kept on their legs almost the entirety of the movie? Lol sounds suffocating

Wanna recommend something I remembered I watched on TV when I was like 14 and got a crush on Julianne Moore. And I see the full movie is on YouTube.

It's a surreal kinda ..dark comedy I guess? It feels mostly like a play.
It's about a married couple who go to a party at night, but she wants to ask for a divorce cause her husbands a complete a weirdo and it just has this absurd kind of tone to it and everything that transpires.

Finally got around to seeing Skinamarink and it definitely lives up to its reputation for being a weird ass art film.
Yeah , it made me feel uneasy. I'm not sure if the sister die and if the police call was real or just metaphorical...
