Indeed is full of scams by now. LinkedIn is a bit more reliable in that regard.

But also, I think a lot of recruiters/companies *want* tech people, but dont know what to look for or what they actually need. Even something simple as data entry/help desk suddenly turns into actually we need a good coder/someone whos good with cloud. Had one final interview where the job requirements they were looking for were completely different from the initial interview (where they said I was a perfect fit).

That's really saddening to hear. Try uploading your resume to indeed and monster if you already haven't. Some recruiters tell me they get my info from there.
My go to places are Indeed, Dice(IT specific job search engine), and LinkedIn. Create profiles on all three with all your credentials so recruiters can search for you in addition to you searching for jobs. Let them come to you while you're searching.

My LinkedIn has been getting tons of messages from recruiters lately. Amazon seems to have stopped messaging me when they did their layoffs. Might have dodged a bullet. Based on the rumors I hear about Amazon, I'm never sure if they're trying to find a developer for the long term or if they're trying to find a sacrificial lamb to protect their long term developers (with them having to fire so many people each year)

I only got my AS in CS but realized programming wasnt a great fit for me so I coasted by. Decided to go IT route and went for A+ cert.

Still struggled to find anything decent because no experience, so had to start in a call center.

3 years later am a network engineer with CCNA, Net+, Sec+, CCSP and a few Mikrotik certs. Job also got my CBRS CPI license as a necessity. Think Im pretty solid for job prospects now, but starting out in a call center / tech support role seems pretty necessary for the experience alone.

Once I started getting Cisco certs and I put my resume online, job recruiters are constantly emailing and calling me.

I currently have:
  • CCNP Enterprise
  • Cisco Meraki Network Associate (never expires)

I used to have a CCNA Security, but they retired that after they combined most of the CCNA level stuff into one exam, so it didn't get renewed when I passed the newest CCNP Enterprise core exam last year.

I'm working on diving into the Cisco Devnet track now

Some dude just called me for a job and I told him if it's not fully remote I can't take it and he hung up so fast on me.

Just got reached out to for the second time by a recruiter for a comically bad role

an IT help desk role (keep in mind Im a software developer which has nothing to do with help desk) that is a 3-month contract for $20/hour and requires 2-5 years experience

not even fully remote. Its hybrid, but requires alternating full weeks in office and wfh. Candidates required to relocate at candidates expense

man what a freaking scam. No wonder they keep bugging me about it, I cant imagine anyone taking this

I'll do you one better. I'm a senior level infrastructure/storage/virtual admin type. I get those same helpdesk jobs on the same 3-6 month contracts but fully in office. They pay $15-17/hr and are on the west coast with me being on the east coast.

There's a subset of recruiters that just blast out their jobs to any and every person they can. The idea being that if the job doesn't fit me, I might know someone who would love it.
