I watched the trailer, looked at a plot synopsis, checked the parents guide on IMDB, read some reviews, heard some input from people here (and on Twitter, YouTube, and other sources when it first came out and got huge hype.)

Short of watching the movie myself, I think I have a pretty good understanding of what it is.

Right, except a bunch of people who watched the movie are telling you that you dont have a good understanding of what it is and youre going nuh uh. I must be right.

which, to be fair, is how you act about everything, so at least youre consistent.

eeaao is good if you enjoy epic bacon humor and sappy sentimental nicecore movies. or want to see the movie a 13 y/o zoomer version of edgar wright who took too many adderall's would make.

it also helps if you don't pay attention to things like writing, directing, tone, and rhythm.

it's produced by the russo bros so if you like that mcu junk, that also probably helps.

Alright I just finished watching the movie. It's weird as hell but there some funny and emotional moments and hidden or not so hidden messages. Overall I'd say it's a 8.1/10 movie which is good

my point is calling it a meme movie is like calling cast away a meme movie because people always talk about Wilson. It might be true in the sense that almost everyone knows about it, and some people dont like it, but in no way is the movie summed up by the memed parts.

I mean...Wilson is the one significant 'meme' of Castaway. There are a lot of memes (and memespeak) in the material I've seen from this movie. Probably the best summary of the memespeak is the fact that they call it "the everything bagel"

I watched a scene on YouTube of a girl (who I presume to be the villain/obviously sympathetic antagonist) revealing the bagel, describing the bagel, spouting edgy nihilism about nothing mattering, then singing about the bagel, then getting high-speed rammed through a wall by what I can only describe as a screaming guy in a wheelchair with obvious comedic effect.

Everything I see just reinforces that the movie isn't for me.

I've watched some clips on YouTube since this thread started, and they all confirm everything I've been saying.

We have different opinions from one another. It happens. You can enjoy your meme movie, I'm not telling you that you're wrong for liking it. I'm glad it makes you happy.

It's just not for me.

I haven't even seen it, it's just hilarious how you're pre-judging a movie based on what people on YouTube are telling you it is while also discounting the opinions of people in this topic who watched it, but denying that you're just out for confirmation bias because you made an early decision about what it was due to a small handful of out-of-context scenes and are too much of a stubborn ass to consider the possibility that you might not be coming at it from a fully informed position, backed up by your continual referencing of it as a "meme movie" because that's all you want it to be.

calling it a meme movie makes it have negative connotations, doesn't matter what you actually mean, people will go at you because it's obviously more than a meme movie.

I've seen plenty. I've sampled several different pieces of the movie and found it to be exactly what I thought it was.

When you test a piece of chicken to make sure it's cooked all the way through, you cut it and check one spot near the middle.

You don't eat the whole piece of chicken to see if it's raw or not. You can tell by looking at it.

I can tell by looking at this movie that it's not for me.

Most of the detractors itt can only lodge incredibly flimsy, surface level complaints towards the movie at best. And at worst are just objectively wrong about what they're upset about (Gob).

I hope that vouches for the movie, I really enjoyed it even if I think the pacing kinda dragged.

I can't for the life of me understand why people are engaging with Gob here. Just let him be. He started off by saying he didn't see the movie and that the humor doesn't appeal to him. Good. You don't have to convince him or anyone else that he's wrong. Just leave it.

It's a maximalist movie. Which is what some people would call a "meme" movie in this day-and-age. It's in the vein of postmodern novels in movie form where the point is not the plot but the experience. It's heavy in symbolism and often references other forms of media/art (like Ratatouille and Heinz Kiessling music ) as well as its own motifs (the everything bagel, googly eyes)
It seems like more conservative types of people don't enjoy those types of things so much.

It does wrap things up neatly with everyone going through some character growth but that's sort of incidental. I do think Quan stole the show with his monologue shots. Michelle Yeoh did her job as the lead.

I preferred The Fablemans but it was a solid movie. I think it took inspiration from Inception and definitely The Matrix.

Yeah I don't get how people are missing this lol. Maybe it's because all the whacky stuff is distracting from it too much? Or maybe I'm just biased as an Asian, so all the Asian family dynamics, standards, etc are so relatable and apparent to me.

I don't think the opinion itself is terrible. more like how he came to the opinion which is so cringe. you can't talk to people like this because they've already made up their mind they're right even though they have no idea what they are talking about . they've watched completely unrelated YouTube videos explaining to them why thing is bad, they've done their research, they more than us lowlifes who enjoy it

I watched it the other day.

Comedy is hit-or-miss and it can get very exposition-heavy at times. I don't usually say a movie should be shorter because why cut out more of a good thing, but EEAAO probably could have had 20 minutes saved through more concise writing. It's not even about the amount of scenes (heck, that is the point) as I'd argue the rock scene was a very important part of the film and needed to be there, but just that many scenes went on just a tad-bit long.

Good movie, but far from my top movies I feel.

The movie seems ultra dramatic over what ends up being very normal family issues with very normal resolutions to the point of the majority of the movie seems like a waste of time and its unclear if it even happened at all.

Not to mention plenty of people, i dare include myself, have had much worse upbringings and problems and the family problems end worse than how they were concluded here. From that perspective this movie seems to cry about relatively small problems that were easily resolved.

You made a pretty damn long movie with more or less a teen whining that was easily resolved...

Those are two of the reasons I'm not ever gonna watch it.

That fact that you don't even understand the everything bagel just proves you don't understand anything about the movie. The butt plug thing wasn't even that long of a sequence and it happened 1 time in the entire movie.

This topic is why MCU movies always hit it big at the box office
