So I'm doing the Chocograph minigame in FF9 and man, is it tedious.

For the uninitiated, you have to pay a pittance of ingame currency to play a (completely optional) hot-and-cold location guessing minigame for 1 minute, with a small change of unearthing a special item that allows you to find a cache of equipment and other items. I'm using Cheat Engine on the PC version to remove the 1 minute time limit so that gathering the special items takes drastically fewer attempts.

Have you ever done something like this? Do you consider this to be cheating since the only thing you're doing is shortening a repetitve task?

i don't really care. if a gameplay segment is just a waste of time i'll use glitches to skip them, like how i always abuse the bug to reuse animals in sa2 because the chao garden sucks and growing a chao normally takes so fucking long and there are several emblems behind it

it says a lot about a bad mechanic if people just want to use cheats or glitches to skip it

Im not sure Id really consider anything cheating in a purely single player experience. I play games for enjoyment, not a sense of accomplishment.

It depends on the activity. I've never had an issue with Chocobo Hot and Cold, however the Skipping Rope I will almost always cheat. Also had to cheat to beat a few bosses in Tunic, or maybe it was Deaths Door, I forget which one gave you the option to be immune. I kept dying constantly, and after like 15 deaths I had to cheat, as I kept dying to stupid things.

I use pkhex often and it's a godsend

To answer the question, I would say it is cheating and you shouldn't claim you've accomplished anything, but also it's single player so if you just want it done who cares.

Yes, it's cheating but no one gives a shit if you cheat through your single player games

You can fast forward while the timer will remain at normal speed. However since a certain amount of precision is required to dig in the correct spot, this solution is... not ideal.

It's still way easier to get points and collect everything
