I am going to come back to this one later, but I recently bought the Dusk Trilogy DX so I started with Atelier Ayesha and it's so odd. I've played it for thirty hours and feel like I am a good portion into the game but not sure how much I like it.

For some strange reason Mana Khemia clicked more with me. I certainly like Atelier Aysesha but sometimes it's just odd the dialogue can get repetitive. I remember how many times they had to drive home she was going on a journey and Regina was all too happy to accompany them on the journey. So they journeyed off.

Also Mana Khemia did a bit of this too but I'll leave my workshop to go buy something and then when I come back there is a cutscene. I go on my journey and every single shop has a cut scene when I come back. I just wanted to buy some bread not hear a out your problems heh It's fun just the pacing is odd also I started rushing more on the last journey because I felt I was taking too much time. Three years is an important milestone...

I'm 30 hours into Ryza 2 and it's been really great, except for my one disappointment of Patricia's scenes revolving around Tao so much.

Atelier Ryza seems to be the game that got the series a lot more popular. Anyhow I am going to boot up Ayesha now. I was playing a different PS4 game for awhile.

(Also when I said later, I meant the topic but then I wrote more than I intended).

I shoulda dropped a spoiler tag in the topic title just in case but I am sorta new this and ppl get get really particular about spoilers. But I was mixing some flowers and passed out and met my sister in a possible dream who was spirited away mysteriously then a unknown voice said this is over ending the connection.

Light story spoilers for Atelier Ayesha above. Ayseha doesn't drink though her friend does and it feels like like one of those drug or drinking dreams heh

For me I chose the Dusk trilogy because of its melancholy vibes. And just was remembering how I really liked Mana Khemia actually. Somebody else here who was more qualified than me made a topic about the ones I am playing but it closed....

To answer your question, uhh Ryza I think has real time combat and ppl usually dig that but I am still happy I tried this trilogy out though I am still unsure how much Iike it.

Ryza's thighs are like the most popular thing from the series which I find crazy. I have the Dusk trilogy but I haven't started it yet. I liked Rorona but tbh I decided to go straight to Ayesha afterwards because I remember listening to and enjoying Shallie's OST a lot.

It is a Atelier topic but yea shit, I think I have to dig into Mana Khemia to find some gals I really liked stuff. Odelia is a human created android, but that's not too sexy. She's no Rika from Phantasy Star IV.

I loved the mana games. They had some nice CEs for the time.

I wish i got all those games at the time. My Atelier collecting didnt start until the first Rorona LE for the PS3. Just like Ar Tonellico, they got scared quick.

Ayesha is a great game. It shouldnt take much time to get used to it and get into the swing of things. Use a guide if you need to.

I got the shoes that shorten my walk time and an item that shortened my gather time and how I got the pot that lets me use the container even if I am not in a workshop is really funny. But I was two years I think of game time and I was like shit I gotta focus on saving my sister more urgently.

You -should- have plenty of time to do it but idk where youre at in the story nor do I remember the story that well (even tho I beat it last year)

the ps3 game isn't like the ps4/vita game (they changed the battle mechanics).

in fact i'm hopeful i can get the courage to start atelier firis (this one has a time limit) with new game plus with gear intact if screw up.

Also haha this contest in Atelier Ayesha the last two times I stomped the owner in it. I've been going into like I don't all these qualifications and he came to my workshop and he said he was going to give up but Ayesha talked him back into it.

I feel like the White Obsidian could work I meant to give that to Mr Keith but it wasn't the class of item hehe so I just gave him the small crucifix item I used to win the last contest.

As others said the writing was weaker but the gameplay was better. Definitely play it if you liked the first. I'd put the two of them pretty much at the top (with MK1 flat out being the top) of the series, they're very much worth playing if you can get a hold of them.

Generally speaking: as early as you are willing to deal with the jank. While I wouldn't say that any Atelier game is bad or hard to play, there is something to be said about how much QoL the earlier ones lack versus where they are now. This makes it extremely hard to go backwards as while the crafting and story are going to be fresh, the actual game feel is going to come across as extremely dated (with the exceptions of the spin-offs due to them just generally working in a different metric, such as how Iris is more of a generic RPG). The order of release is Arland >Dusk > Mysterious > Secret as far as what is available on Steam, and I would recommend not really worrying too much about what came out prior. Dusk is the first trilogy that I would really recommend as Arland is a bit messy compared to the others due to not really standing out (beyond its brutal time limits if you aren't using a guide, that is). It has arguably the strongest writing of the lot, but its gameplay is a bit less appealing. Mysterious is a pretty notable step up in terms of just how good it feels to play, and I would argue that it has overall the best characters. Compared to Dusk it also is a pretty big step up in terms of just how fun its alchemy system is, though it can get overwhelming if you aren't ready for some complex layering. If you are into crafting in games, however, definitely don't miss it as it is extremely unique in a series that is based on the idea of having unique crafting systems. Ryza is a bit of the "jack of all trades" of the lot in that I don't think it excels at anything, with the sole exception of just generally being the funnest (even over Sophie 2). Especially if you are into making "perfect" stuffs. There are just far too many upgrades to the core experience that make experimentation and messing around so much more fulfilling, and is overall the most complete package in terms of having the crafting be super easy to get into while also having a heavy amount of depth potential. While Sophie 2, and thus Mysterious, would expand upon a bit of this I feel that overall it fails in a couple of ways to really capture some of the magic that Ryza's systems had (and I kind of still liked Sophie's cauldron system the best out of the Mysterious games as well ~.~).

Who is better than Pamela? Anyhow uh yeah. I should take a picture of me with Mana Khemia 1 I know it's not super rare but these odd games that may get lost are special.

ellis123 explained it really well, so Ill just add to it. Each trilogy is a self contained story, so you dont have worry about what came before. While it isnt extremely important to start with the first game in a trilogy since barring the Secret trilogy and the 2 Sophie games in Mysterious all of them have a different protagonist with their own goals in each game, its still recommended since most of the story for each character is in the game they debuted in.

As for which trilogy to start with, Im torn between Arland and Dusk. On the one hand, for me at least, Dusk is the peak of the series, but Arland might be hard to go back to due to it having less QoL improvements. On the other hand, starting with Arland avoids that but they might be rough enough to turn someone off the games since theres been 13 years worth of improvements since then. Of the main series, Iris and Man Khemia are the easiest to go back to later since they play more like normal PS2 JRPGs.

As for spin-offs (which no one asked about, but Ill include for completeness sake) the only 2 released in English are Annie and Nelke. Annie is similar to the original the original 2 series which never came out in English (until the remake of the very first game Marie comes out later this year). It was okay. I dont really remember much about it. Nelke is a town sim that works best after having played all the other pre-Secret main titles since it has characters from all of them. It wasnt really my cup of tea. I had to set up spreadsheets for it lol.
