I think I am fundamentally not understanding them. But on the other hand the only way to get good rewards for the missions is to be as reckless as possible by sending Alicia for instance and bum rushing her all over the battlefield. Totally ridiculous. Then I get my tank in bad situations somehow and get blown up. Idk. Its not like any strategy game Ive ever played.

I never could play this series cos of the real time aspect its just too stressful to play for me and I always had something on my team get blown up and I didn't find it fun when I won either cos it felt like I just fluked it

Scouts are incredibly overpowered and Alicia is the best one. Once you get all of the orders for Welkin you can blow up tanks with scouts too. Sniper+the tank to clear the way --> scouts do their thing.

Use your scouts and do not let units be alone early game. Make use of the interception fire feature, as that will fortify your position.

Use your tank as a movable cover for your other units, as you push through. I personally split my group up and pincer, or use shock troopers to push forward, with scouts and snipers shooting from afar and sighting new enemies.

Man, I really like that game at first, but by the end of the game i was so ready to be done with it. I had bought the complete collection of valky 4 before i beat it, but im still too burned out on the series to want to try it

It gets easier

I only played the first one because seeing gameplay i was like "cool, anime xcom" but yeah, it ended up being nothing like that. cautious strategy was pretty much how you got killed and instead there was usually a sensible solution that was already sat which involved rushing scouts as fast as possible

i wasnt a fan and never tried the sequels

What I really hated about the game, at least in the first one, is it just wants you to bum rush and kill everything as fast as possible to A rank. That's not really fun at all.

Im actually about to try VC3 for the first time. I heard that one is a lot different than the others.

i played 3 when it released and wow was it incredibly repetitive, reusing the same maps over and over and over again all the time

2 and 3 just aren't good. 1 and 4 are basically the exact same game except 4 adds grenadiers.

I still need to beat 4

3 was at least a lot more interesting due to the characters and the general nature of the story. It had a much darker tone to it than 2. That game was just like what if we made Valkyria Chronicles but on a portable; so it's already more limited and made it centered around a super generic Japanese highschool setting. I got 4 recently when it was real cheap during a Steam sale on the final morning, but I just never got around to it.
