i had a lot more experience when i was 29 as opposed to 19. i wasn't much different at 19 than i was 17 aside from the school i went to and i've drank alcohol a few times. 29? much different.

I was talking about the age difference. 54 to 19 and 64 to 29 is still a two sets of ADULT couples with a 35 year age gape between them.

But to your comparison, you may have been the same at 19 as you were at 17, but you were (probably) the same at 21 as you were 19.

So where do we draw the line at it being "ok" to date WAY older than yourself?

Judging by the Leo stories last week, it's obviously not 19 and 48. So what is it? 21 and 50? 25 and 54?

It's mostly the level of maturity between the two people. Leo was in his late 30s and early to mid 40s dating women who were only 20 years old. His latest girlfriend is 19. At least Madonna is dating a grown man and not someone who just finished Highschool 2 years ago.

She was 25 when they broke up, she was 20 when they first started dating. So were 2 other girlfriends. He dated Bar Refaeli when he was 30 and she was 20, Toni Garrn when he was 38 and she was 20 and Camila Morone when he was 43 and she was 20, now he's 51 and his girlfriend Gigi Hadid is 19. So far with his pattern he won't be dating Gigi Hadid because she'll turn 25 and stop being a young adult. We're trying to Loki's Wager an idea that maybe people who are ~40 years old or older shouldn't be dating women in their early 20s. The concept is fuzzy, but nobody would give a shit if he was 29 and was dating a 20-22 year old. He's out of his mid 30s now and still chasing college girls.

I'm not pretending to be the arbiter of societies opinion on dating. But it's that a person older than ~30-40 is dating someone 19-21, and then keep doing it over and over again. Although there's sort of a gray area where it isn't that "weird", at least not anywhere near as weird as 43/20. For Leo's part, it's like he can't stand dating anyone 26 or older. And now he's dated a 20 year old at 43 and a 19 year old at age 48. Madonna isn't weird not based on any kind of "lack of gap" or "female privilege" it's the fact her boyfriend isn't a young adult. Anna Nicole Smith was weird because despite the fact she was a mature adult, she was marrying someone who could be her GRANDFATHER.

And in any case you're trying to make raw distinctions on something that feels like a fuzzy concept anyway. No, I don't know how many grains of sand you need to remove before it isn't a "pile" anymore.

About time Madonna got called out for this. Her previous boyfriend was 24. People were silent on it while Leo got attacked for being with someone at same age despite the closer age gap than the Madonna relationship.

We(society) already drew that line, its called the age of consent, and once you reach that you are free to date whomever you want, as long as they are also above said age. And yes, I know the
arguments, experience, power differentials, etc. But, in the eyes of the law none of that matters one bit.

Its about time Twitter people get called out for sticking their noses in other peoples business. Are you this young mans mother or father? No? Then you have no business telling him who he should date(as long as they are of the age of consent). Is it creepy? Yes, you could make that argument. But that doesnt matter, grown people can do anything they want, as long as it is legal, and the opinions of Twitter busybodies mean absolutely nothing.

I just used Leo as an example, as he was the most recent one in the news prior to this story about Madonna.

But we see it all the time, and I really don't want to point it out, but it seems to only be "ick" when the man is decades older, even when the younger woman is in her late 20's or early 30's. I didn't want to point it out, because I don't want to make it a "man vs woman" argument. But...

Alec and Hilaria Baldwin - 26 year difference. Alec is gross.
Cher and Alexander Edwards - 40 year difference. Not a peep.

The we have Holland Taylor and Sara Paulson, who have a 32 year age gap, but there's ZERO chance anyone says anything about that relationship.

It's weird to conflate some of these relationships. A 40 year age gap where the youngest is 36 is, at worst, an oddity.

True. I just find it weird that each time one of these May-December relationships are made public, people react to them differently based on:

Age of the younger person
Age of the older person
Age gap between them
Which one is older (male or female)

And the ultimate deciding factor tends to just be whether or not people like the celebrity/celebrities involved.
