Sumia ended up with Chrom in my playthrough. iirc she has the highest priority with him if no one S Ranks him by a certain chapter.

I'm torn. I've been an FE fan since it first came out in the West. I like waifus but I also don't like that people write it off as a dating sim now. Still it saved the series since it was literally going to end with Awakening if it didn't do well. Imagine a timeline where Fire Emblem has the same status of Star Fox or F-Zero. *shudder*

Eh, before Awakening it was always indirect. Like it had waifus in the same way any game/show/movie with cute characters had waifus. But the player had pretty minimal agency with their waifu.

So sure you might think L'arachel is best girl in Sacred Stones (and you are 100% correct), but that's the extent of what you can do with your waifu.

Awakening was the first localized game to have a customizable avatar character. And while Robin (or whatever you named them) had a fairly distinct, fixed personality for a self-insert it was still the first real agency the player ever had to interact with their waifu. And the child mechanic gave it a tangible, in-game benefit.

This carried forward to various degrees in future games.
