we all know what this episode will be about so why hide it. two more episodes left then its over until the next season.

Episode 8 is David and his crew, 9 is the hospital finale.

I am surprised at the run time of the last episode which is only under 50 minutes. I thought it would be at least 70 minutes.

I mean, it's poignant, but its not like there's a lot of... y'know... substance. Definitely better from a gameplay perspective.

Though I wonder if they'll do any more overt foreshadowing of Abby

The second game covers a lot more. That's at minimum 2 seasons right there. They could probably drag it out to 3.

They already said they wont adapt anything outside the games as they dont want game of thrones level backlash from deviating too much from the source.

Edit: Or Jax and Daxter as the outbreak happened in 2003 in the show.

So this is the most directly translated episode so far in terms of not deviating from the game. At least the mall was, I remember it going down like that aside from the lone infected. In the game it was a crowd of them, cant do that in the show with how fast they move.

i very much want more infected in the next episode, we all know episode 9 wont have much of them. Also plenty of Troy Baker in that episode 8 preview.

Yeah honestly the infected feel like a backdrop lol the show just reminds you they exist every now and then

Great episode. Great show

tbf, the infected were only prominent in the game because you needed enemies to fight. Don't remember them much appearing in the main story cutscenes, since the plot is about Joel and Ellie and the people they meet.

At the end of the day, the show's about the people who are trying to survive; the zombies and everything are just the setting.

Weakest episode so far imo. Also the ugliest in terms of cinematography. I never played the DLC so I have no affinity for it (though I have no love for the games either, and feel like the show overall has been leagues better) and I don't necessarily mind it being superfluous to the going ons in the current story. Just felt like it really dragged.

Also the Behind the Episode things are somehow getting worse lol

GameStop used to be Funco until around 2000. Electronic Boutique (EB Games) was a different company that was purchased by GameStop later.

For what it was, it was really good, but this is the first time I felt that it was really lacking in comparison to the game. The DLC compared and contrasted their date with Ellie exploring a mall looking for medical supplies in a really interesting way. That seemed like such a no-brainer thing to adapt.

The present-tense in the DLC is also the only time (at least in the first game, haven't played the second) where you're able to set infected against human enemies and that would have been fun to see in the show.

That said, I do think this was the tensest episode for me. Knowing how the night ends adds this nice little poignancy to everything that happens and a constant feeling of waiting on that shoe to drop.

Nah, Ellie has no memory of her parents. I'm betting that's from the last episode as a Marlene flashback with her pondering the decision to kill Ellie for the cure.

Ashley Johnson was seen in one of the initial trailers playing her mom, holding her as a baby. Shell Show up at some point.

I really liked the shot of the mall powering up.

It doesnt advance the main plot if thats what you mean. Its a flashback episode explaining how Ellie got infected.

Yeah, I can see the argument for the Bill episode being filler, but this one is not. This is not a story where getting from Point A to Point B is the point of it, it's about exploring the characters. I know how the story goes and I'm here to tell you that if you think this episode is filler, you may as well just watch the first two episodes and then skip to the last one because the rest of it is just going to be "filler."

I'll watch it. I've always skipped the dlc on replays

Was just about to say that. In theory everything between Joel, you have to get her to the fireflies to Joel gets her to the fireflies is technically filler.

I liked the episode.

I heard people say they preferred the DLC, but I haven't played it yet, so I can't comment on that.

but it was fun, sweet, and ultimately tragic.

Never played the dlc, but I was mildly familiar with what happens. Overall, I felt it was one of the weaker episodes

I liked the romantic build up. I just got kind of bored of watching them on this cute date. Would've liked to either see them lengthen it with more academy stuff to balance it out a little or shorten the episode to kind of rush through it.

The Bill relationship was better because they didn't half ass it. They showed it over time and it was fantastic. Conversely the game went for a much shorter version which also worked. This episode seemed to be somewhere in between and it didn't work as well for me.

Part of the mall that they filmed the episode in is where I park for work during the weekdays.

I think them cutting out the present day mall stuff is fine. I mean in the game, it's only really there so you have action sequences to play so that the DLC isn't just an 1 hour long walking simulator. That's not really necessary in a show format.

Pretty boring episode imo. Seemed really drawn out without much real substance to it.

I think the problem with the episode is that the entire point of it was to answer two really unimportant, or at least not really compelling, questions:
1. How did Ellie get bit
2. Why is she so keen on saving Joel

Neither of them needed to be answered. Especially the second one. And their reasoning in the bts after the show felt so shallow. Basically she's an orphan and she had to experience loss in order to value human companionship, cuz she didnt have a family. And now she has a father figure. Just kinda dumb.

I never played the dlc so there were no spoilers for me.

probably my most expected episode so far since i loved the DLC. glad it did not disappoint! this show just cant stop hitting me in the feels!

btw, i legit didnt know the name of Riley's actress was literally Storm Reid. sounds pretty badass actually: like the name of an X-Men or something... lol >_>

It also establishes Ellie as gay and her survivors guilt. Which is overall pretty important for her character going forward.

I guess maybe they don't get into the survivors guilt with the behind the scenes stuff as it's very spoilery.

This was my thoughts, I liked the episode but the story was not as well done or interesting as the Bill/Frank episode. Ultimately they could have left this story to our imagination and we wouldn't have lost anything.

same, they already did this stuff through ellie's acting or with Henry, Sam, and Tess. It was implied through their argument last episode and the writing to Sam.

It's "development", but just telling.
