I missed a lot of the themes and plot points when I played it as a kid. But that's more because I couldn't find my way around Xenogears. saspa 03/05/23 1:37:43 PM #47:	On the one hand I shouldn't have to need to religiously follow a guide 25 years after the game came out in order to be able to break the game and make it remotely playable. On the other hand, it was pretty immensely satisfying that my characters were level 15 when I beat the game. And having no-encounter for a ps1 era jrpg with their frequent encounter rates meant that I could literally walk the entire world map or dungeon without every facing a battle. But it's still just a minigame masquerading as a jrpg. Triple Triad can be fun sure, but anything besides normal rules is not fun. And I don't even bother playing unless it's to get those one-in-a-million cards. When I first played FF 8 I didn't even beat it, got stuck on disc 3 and then just skipped to FF 9 which was an initial relief at being a regular jrpg with no fucking level scaling. But those battle load times are inexcusable and really bring the game down since that's a core part of a video game, and anyone saying otherwise is in denial.
