I'm sorry this is are some hilarious takes. How did all the 30-something year olds on CE get through life up till now having never been exposed to people who are well off financially to the point of having a breakdown because they saw an expensive watch

I would venture the guess that 50-75% of CE is Gen-x who will never give a fuck about anything, and we're watching millennials and Z fight each-other.

Yeah my first stab at nice watches is still my daily and my personal favorite. I'm not a flashy flashy guy, I got pushed into that life cause I'm in finance so I'll wear the flash when I'm at work. But when I'm off? Simple black, metal, diamonds - perfection. I love this bad boy.

With watches for some people brand perception is just super important, and I get that. But with me I also just enjoy really high quality stuff. The brand perception has nothing to do with the actual physical watch itself.

Rolex has insane brand equity, but a Grand Seiko is just a league above them quality-wise. I own Rolex, I like them, but they're mass produced, well finished, robust watches. A Grand Seiko, case, dial, movement (which they display, unlike Rolex), are finished to a degree that you could easily compare to brands like Moser (watches starting at 20k), Breguet, etc. They are phenomenal watches, and if brand perception doesn't bother you, then with a Grand Seiko you're getting an insane watch, well above Rolex, Omega, Breitling, IWC in terms of quality.

how do you feel about the omega/swatch moonswatch?

I bought a couple, then I ended buying a real speedy because of the moonswatch, and not the other way around.

2022 is the last model year, and it was a cheap AWD/ABS/Stabilitrack for $24K that I can fit shit in.

I'll just fucking give it to you right now, but Missouri says I can't sell it for less than $200. The power steering was replaced four years ago, front brakes ten years ago, timing belt last year, front suspension in September, and it's on its fifth alternator.

I also have two Pontiac Fieros rotting in my dad's barn if you want one.

that is my beef with the market. Zx2s? Fieros? They were cool sporty cars when they were brand new. I dont think such a thing exists right now anymore

That's pretty interesting, I've heard this quite a lot. People thought it would hurt the sales of the Moonwatch but it actually seems like it helped considerably. People at Omega are on record for saying real Moonwatch sales have gone up.

I like them. I got the Mission to Mars. It's a nice color and somethig I don't have to worry about banging around. It seems to have pumped the Swatch Group with liquidity, which will help them make plenty more nice watches. So who am I to complain?

Yes, 120m water resistance, which is plenty considering the slim case. Screw down crown as well to prevent pulling crown out accidentally. The aesthetic is also a diver's look, especially with the rubber strap as well. I'm not a regular diver, but I wil definitely take this one swimming!

I'm sure you know this but for others bear in mind those resistances are often measured in static pressure. I'm sure a swimming pool is no problem but those numbers are under the most ideal circumstances, and even the simple act of paddling your arms creates dynamic, changing pressures.

The screw down crown is a great indicator that it can infact readily stay at that depth though.

For sure. My rule of thumb is 100m + screw down crown means okay to submerge. 120m is alright for the pool and close-to-surface diving.

I hope you bought it at the Swatch boutique and didn't pay those stupid secondary market prices! Yeah my Mission to Mars is already pretty scratched up by now. But scratches mean my nicer pieces didn't get scratched, so I don't mind it at all. I bought it to get banged up after all.

thoughts on speedmaster reduced vs speedmaster professional?

I would avoid those. They are notoriously expensive to service, as they use an awkward modular chronograph movement instead of a fully integrated one (like the 1861/3 or 3861). It's basically an ETA2824 with a module placed on top, which is why if you look at the side of the case, the pushers aren't in line with the crown. Other things are the dial is of a lesser quality, with the subdials not having any depth like on other Speedmaster counterparts.

If you want a smaller case Speedmaster, then either go for the Speedmaster FOIS (first Omega in Space) which comes in a 39mm case, vs the 42mm Moonwatch case. Or go for the ref 3594.50, which was a broad arrow re-issue from the 90s and 2000s with the 39mm case and 1861 movement. The 3594.50 Speedmaster Professionals are the biggest manual wind Speedmaster value props you can find at the moment. They are very slept on!

You're likely to spend maybe a grand more than a reduced, but you're getting a lot more value and a cheaper movement to service in the future.

I've been asked what I do and how much I earn, so respectfully, no. I won't stop. I'm happy to answer questions or argue absurd accusations thrown at me.

This is GameFaqs, the average age is close to 40, and people here still scream for "proof" whenever you say you have a girlfriend. It is what it is, but the reality is of the 120k average users that voted in the "Poll of the Day" from 2011, at least 75% of them went on to get careers, buy houses, get married, and raise families. Current Events is not the majority, they are the outlier.

It's just that as people grow old and take on more adult responsibilities, they post on GameFaqs less. Probably because they game less. For whatever reason I went the opposite, as I got into the office life, I posted more. Perhaps because I was never a big gamer, and always just used this site for the social function of it. I have not played a video game in almost two years (MK11 being my last).

In my 20's I was never in front of a computer, and didn't have a good phone. I was always on the go. As I got into the corporate world, I'm always staring at my Phone or PC -- and in the downtime between meetings and stuff I find myself retreating to GameFaqs for entertainment.

It still amazes me how the people who post here are still under the fallacy that everyone whos ever used this website is somehow a giant loser. As if every single Game Developer between the age of 30 - 45 didn't at one point or another have a GameFaqs account while growing up. Makes me roll my eyes so hard.

I sure did! It's such a great piece, I've been wearing it for one straight week now. The slimness of the case and the way the strap connects seamlessly with the case makes it feel like an extension of my own wrist in a way no other watch I own does. A steel Rolex sub date costs over $10k retail now, closer to $17-18k on the secondary market. But the Patek Philippe is just so much more "watch", if that makes sense. The case construction is just next level. Love it.

Yeah, I actually sold 4 watches to fund this Aquanaut. 2 Tudors, a Rolex Explorer 2, and a vintage Breitling Navitimer. Reduced by 4, added one. I do have a new piece coming next week. I usually don't buy watches this close together, but this one will be an extremely rare (limited only to 70 pieces) Navitimer which if I didn't buy now I will likely never be able to purchase again. Maybe I'll make a new topic for that one. After all it's "only" worth about $8-9k, lol.

I will end up with 6 nice pieces after the consolidation and purchasing this one and the Navitimer.

Oh, sorry skipped that question. I sell them on local Swiss platforms to sell/auction anything. I've also used Facebook Marketplace to sell one watch before. I'll meet the person face to face somewhere locally for the trade/sale. Works pretty well.

Ebay and Chrono24 have fees that are too expensive, so I won't sell on those platforms.

Just be sure that you really want an open heart watch. I personally don't like them. I love seeing a mechanical movement, but there's a time and a place for it. I vastly prefer a clean dial with no holes. If I want to see into the movement, I flip it around and have a gander that way.

When I got my Seiko Alpinist Ginza edition there was the open heart version that you posted, and a more expensive Prospex version with a better 72 day power reserve movement vs a 42hr movement. In retrospect I'm really happy I went for the cleaner dial as it's a way more timeless look I find.

That being said, everyone's taste is different. If that's what you want, go for it. It's a Seiko so you definitely won't have to worry about quality.
