You spend a great deal of time "correcting misinformation". What good ever comes of it? Really feels like this stems less from your sense integrity as a scientist and more about arguing with people on the internet.

I've seen many people, online and irl, repeat the claims that have been made by and about neuralink.

If I see it, i say something. Takes me about 30 seconds to type a post. If some passive onlooker is at least a little more skeptical of these wild claims, then great. If not, i wasted 30 seconds of time that wasn't going to be used in any reasonable way anyway. If i'm browsing ce, i'm deliberately wasting time.

Also, my active post count is 17, and usually hovers around there lol.

You're right, if it happens to promote any bit of healthy skepticism, that's a good thing. Still gonna stick to my guns that your primary motivation is more base.

Didn't they just recently successfully map out a sliver of a mouses brain? Which is like.. 100k neurons? Ours is like 80 billion neurons if I'm not mistaken.. with the amount of storage needed to contain it being some nutso number.

I'm not saying it's not ever going to happen. But given those numbers we are .00000125% of the way there without taking into consideration hormones, neurotransmitters and other variables that make us who we are.

I believe they said it took 2 petabytes to store just the mapping for the sliver of mouse brain. Extrapolated it would be some 2,000 exabytes to store the mapping of a human brain. Which is double the amount of what's stored in the Google Cloud at the moment.

While I'm again not saying it won't happen... We just probably won't be there any time soon. Especially for peasants like us to gain some kind of digital immortality.

Yes! And not just because Roko's Basilisk is probably watching I genuinely welcome our AI overlord. The rest should be obviously good, technology making human life objectively better, unless you end up in a Keeping up with the Joneses kinda situation and end up a confusing mass off robotic and biological augmentations

I have no fear of Roko's Basilisk because while time travel is technically possible in some form, manipulating past events to create a different present is not.

I enjoy fiction based on that idea (Chrono Trigger, Doctor Who, Back to the Future), but unfortunately physics so far points to past events being fixed.
