Thirteen people were taken to local hospitals after an explosion at a metal factory near Oakwood, Ohio, according to Captain Brian DiRocco with the Oakwood Village Fire Department.
The explosion was at the I. Schumann & Co. building, a metal alloy factory, according to CNN affiliate WOIO, who is at the scene.
At least two people are in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center, where four patients are being treated, according to Dorsena Drakeford, a media relations specialist at the center.
Several people have burn injuries, DiRocco said. All staff have been accounted for, he added. One additional person was treated at the site, DiRocco said.
The bulk of the fire was out as of 5 p.m., and crews are working on putting out hot spots, DiRocco said. The explosion and fire occurred around 3 p.m. Monday and left debris scattered around the area, he said.
Several fire departments responded to a large fire at the scene, the Twinsburg Fire Department said. The fire department sent one crew to respond to patients and they transported at least one person to the hospital, the department told CNN.
There is no word on what caused the fire, a Twinsburg Fire Department spokesperson said.

At least 14 people have been injured in an explosion at a metals plant in Ohio that sent molten metal and debris raining down on nearby buildings.
According to Reuters, the blast occurred around 2pm at the I Schumann & Co manufacturing plant in the city of Bedford, near Cleveland, creating a towering pillar of smoke that brought fire engines racing from across the state.
Brian DiRocco, the fire chief for the nearby city of Oakwood, said most of the people hurt were walking wounded but that at least one was in critical condition.

"I'm sure there's a lot of people that work here that were in shock," Mr DiRocco added.
A spokesperson for I Schumann said the cause of the blast was not yet known, but that damage to the plant had been "significant".

Chemical dangers
This generates fire or explosion hazard. Decomposes on burning. This produces toxic and corrosive fumes of hydrogen chloride and phosgene. Attacks iron and steel in the presence of moisture.

And there was a bunch of other chemicals they didn't even man up to tell people that was on the train that got spilled and released.

A mass casualty incident (often shortened to MCI) describes an incident in which emergency medical services resources, such as personnel and equipment, are overwhelmed by the number and severity of casualties. For example, an incident where a two-person crew is responding to a motor vehicle collision with three severely injured people could be considered a mass casualty incident.

When burned, vinyl chloride reacts to form phosphene gas, which was used as a chemical weapon in World War I.

Phosphine is extremely flammable and explosive. The agent may ignite spontaneously on contact with air. The agent may be ignited by heat, sparks, or flames.

https://www.newsweek.com/toxic-chemicals-ohio-train-derailment-east-palestine-spread-far-1781465

While the overall ecological impact of the chemical spill is not yet known, the effects of these chemicals could continually spread for several miles through the air around the town, depending on the concentration of the released chemicals and local conditions.
"It depends very much on the weather conditions, particularly wind speed and direction and on the quantitiesbut potentially well over 100 miles radius,"

Pollutants [will be] dispersed by the plume from the fire. It's not just a matter of where the winds blew and how fast, but also what happens to the chemicals as they are burned, and further chemical reactions with substances in the atmosphere. So what you measure at some distance from the train derailment would need to consider the above,"

Your chemistry is off. Vinyl chloride forms phosgene when burned, not phosphine. Phosgene is toxic, but it's also highly reactive with the water in the atmosphere, meaning that any of it that was released by burning likely didn't even make it a mile from the crash site before breaking apart into HCl and CO2.

I'm not sure we can claim this one as a cause of deregulation. Not even really sure would could cause a big explosion like that as far as "metal manufacturing" goes. Unless maybe it was a pickling plant and that had large amounts of hydrocloric acid or something, I dunno.

found a list maybe all of it maybe not

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/what-we-know-about-the-chemicals-aboard-the-train-that-derailed-in-ohio

The train that derailed in East Palestine was carrying several industrial chemicals, many of which are classified as highly flammable:
  • Vinyl chloride. This gas is used to create PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes, construction materials, packaging and other products, according to the EPA. It was involved in the controlled burn conducted after the derailment.
  • Isobutylene. This gas can be used in the production of butyl rubber, antioxidants for foods and plastics, and aviation gasoline, according to the National Library of Medicine.
  • Butyl acrylate. This liquid is used to make paints, adhesives, sealants and other products, according to the National Library of Medicine.
  • Benzene. This liquid has a wide range of uses, according to the EPA, including as a solvent and in the manufacture of goods like detergents and explosives. This chemical was not transported on the train at the time of the derailment, but officials said residue from previous shipments remained on the train cars, the Associated Press reported.
  • Ethylhexyl acrylate. This liquid is used in the manufacturing of paints and plastics, according to the National Library of Medicine.
  • Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether. This liquid is used as a solvent and in the production of paint and varnish, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
