I thought with the foreshadowing of Joel's heart problems, that's how he would be injured going into winter. Will those ever come back, or was it just so he could tell Tommy he gets scared sometimes?

Also, was it a heart condition we saw or was it a panic attack?

As someone who's had the latter before, they can mimic the symptoms of a heart attack.

this is something some players were able to pick up from The Last of Us Part I because of the higher level of detail, so maybe the TV show is leaning more into that:

As a refresher, can someone remind me how Joel gets injured at Colorado University in the game, compared to the show? I only played the game once 2 years ago, and I remember most of it but this detail is completely eluding me.

I'm thinking that's why they changed when the timeskip happened too, to maybe get rid of some of the amiguity around what happened during his injury

Then shes a major idiot. There was a pamphlet in the scene that Ellie picks up. It says menstrual solution - the Diva cup. They made is pretty obvious what it was.

A diaphragm looks quite different and is not effective enough without a spermicide.

Again, one can't accurately have an opinion on something unless they've experienced it themselves. Reviews can help get an idea, but it's just an idea. This is something I've always stood by and it gets constantly proven despite how some would disagree.

And again, where was this energy against reviews of Ant Man 3?

Ive not watched the show and Ive not played the game, but I do watch episode reviews on YouTube.

So apparently Ellie is given a diaphragm as a gift bevause she might need it even though shes only 14. So the episode is promoting underage sex now? And its also promoting communism. And the reviewer said this Joel is a poorer weaker version of how he was in the game.

It's kinda amazing how quickly these agenda-driven troglodytes tell on themselves. Like dude is basically announcing to the whole world that he knows nothing about women while simultaneously looking for something to be enraged about.

To clarify I am speaking about this idiot "reviewer". I'm not insulting any users who spend their valuable waking hours viewing this unfettered moron's content and taking it at face value.

I watch HeelVsBabyface because hes prejudiced and tears bad shows apart mercilessly. And he does it so hilariously. His show is to entertain, not to educate or inform - and entertain he does. Thats what I want.

I don't watch that particular YouTube show, so I'll take your word for it, but if the female of the show doesn't know the difference between a diaphragm and a diva cup, and seem to talk with obvious prejudices, I'd have a tough time listening to them.

Man, some of you just fucking suck. I just wanted to come in and talk about the show. The episode was great. They nailed my favorite scene in the game. And are making Joel even more human and relatable. Which makes his decision in the end, AND I'M NOT ARGUING IF IT WAS WRONG OR RIGHT HERE, more believable in character. But unless the show goes at a break neck speed, I cannot see how this ends with the end of the game. We still haven't even met David. There is a DLC episode so we have 2 from that to the choice. Seems like a lot unless the episodes are long as fuck.

I like how Ellie asked if he cared about her, or something like that, and he was like, "of course I do" without there being any kinda hesitation or usual Joel grumpiness.

They don't have to adapt 1:1, and they went through the entire university level in like... 10 minutes. they may only spend 20 min on an ellie flashback, 20 min on her nursing joel and the david thing, and the other 20 on the bus despot level. and that would leave them 2 episodes left lol. So I think they could definitely do David one episode and the end of the game in the next

With 3 episodes left, its almost certainly going to be:
7: DLC flashback scenes with Riley
8: Davids town and Joel recovering from injury
9: firefly headquarters

Episode was pretty decent. Ngl tho the post show recaps with Mazin and Druckmann give the GoT ones a run for their money in terribleness. They should just interview the cinematographer instead lol

Yeah, I don't think the final episode is going to need as much time as some people seem to think. It's 90% action and action doesn't take that long.

IIRC, the entire ending sequence in the game from when Joel learns Ellie will die to the final scene where he lies to her at the end is only 20 minutes

Now that I can go in depth, I was very disappointed by the University Campus segment of the episode. The Last of Us gets drama and emotion done VERY well but is beginning to feel unbalanced when it comes to the intense action moments. The University was just a giant empty set piece and for such a crazy moment from the game they basically did absolutely nothing with it. Every time we get a moment of action it feels like theyre just rushing through it to the next moment to make us cry or feel sad. I dont really get the vibe of this dangerous world of infected and raiders the story has established. I feel like the emotional aspects DOMINATE the show already so when we get a moment of action it should be balls to the wall but its very reserved. Where I stand now I would 100% say the game is the definitive way to experience this story. I still think the show is great, theres just too much focus on tear-baiting the audience in my opinion.

I don't really agree. To me, having them plow through dozens of infected and raiders like they do in the game would undercut their message about how Joel is getting older and less reliable in a fight, and would probably just end up getting repetitive after a while.

I will, say, though, that they probably should at least have killed all of those guys at the university, because when Ellie meets David and we get the "crazy man traveling with a little girl" scene, it doesn't feel to me like it would hit as hard when they only lost one guy as it did when they lost a whole group, if that makes sense.

maybe they didn't watch the episode because Joel literally had a whole scene about how he's older and can't really keep up anymore and that he'll get Ellie killed. He's already iced a few guys and this isn't the game where you pick up ammo in every room and can start mowing people down without care lol

Interesting how he played the "map game" with the old couple in the cabin. Wonder if he will do it again like in the game knife under the guys kneecap. They made allusions to his violent past, so curious if they will show us this as an example of what he used to be like.

And as soon as I saw the bedroom, I recognized it from the game where Ellie and Joel argue. Think I actually preferred the show ending with Joel storming out of the room. In the game, the scene felt a little undercut by suddenly getting attacked by raiders.

I can see what they mean by that, but I don't think having a bunch of action scenes peppered throughout would work as well for the show. It gets repetitive and in a way lowers the threat of raiders/infected if they keep pulling through. It makes the battles they do get into mean more.

Also it's interesting because a lot of discourse over the years have considered the gameplay the worst part of TLOU. (I don't personally agree with that but I've seen it a lot). So this seems like a natural extension of that opinion.

I will say I don't feel like the bonding between Joel and Ellie has been natural or "earned", they just kind of turned a corner off screen between the course of an episode or two. But, that's natural since they have to condense from the game so I'm not too hard on that

Just having Joel fighting waves and wave of infected and raiders on the show would just have it turn into a Rambo movie.

You can't have the TV show be the 1:1 adaptation of the video game, because we can't just have 10 episodes of "Kill a dozen or so things, find supplies and heal, walk to the next spot, kill another dozen or so thing, find supplies and heal, rinse/repeat. Oh, and move a board or ladder every so often".

As simple as it sounds, the show is basically just the cutscenes from the game, not the gameplay. We didn't need 8 episodes of Joel fighting clickers and raiders to reflect how dangerous this world is.

The first season is the first game, they've already confirmed it and the episode titles already allude to this. It will end in 3 more episodes.

ngl, I'm missing the scenes with the scientists that added to the world building, like in the first two episodes.

What's interesting is that despite the show being more blunt, show-Joel is still way more likable (to me, anyway). In the game he's always angry and has no remorse for anything, and never shows anything close to the vulnerability that show-Joel just did. So I think those same "Joel did nothing wrong" people will be just as prevalent, if not more so.

Think it's just a fact of the show being more character driven, whereas the game had, for lack of a better term, playing the game, as the driving factor, where the storyline was secondary.

Storyline was not secondary at all in the game LOL.
