In the 90s there was a new video game mascot character called Spyro the Dragon who had a trilogy of great games on the PS1 (we don't talk about what happened afterwards) However Spyro is a child. Between 10-12 years old in the first 3 games. He's a weakling. Instead of a health bar or protective masks or powerups. Spyro has a dragonfly called Sparx following him around. When Spyro takes a hit, Sparx absorbs all the pain and changes color. From Gold to Blue to Green, then death. He also collects treasures for you. He sticks by Spyro the entire time on all his adventures, even fighting dangerous monsters to recover eggs in Spyro 3. And he does this with no fan fare, no respect, nothing. He's just a compete bro. I can't think of anyone else in gaming who comes close.
