I don't remember this but it also seems plausible at the small scale. Like a mod saying something on a random board

I looked at the Twitter convo and looks like someone posted a screenshot of LUE topics. Not sure if that is moldable to post on CE. Just looking at the threads it seems like CE except with a lot less posts. Like it had 5 pages Assuming between 20-50 posts per page that is a max of like 250 topics. CE has around 1,000-1,300 topics active at any one time.

Who cares really. LUE is a dead dead board. You thought CE was dead? LUE is a carcass.

I said that just before your post. Someone posted LUE screenshot in the comments. Might as well post it

LUE has very little activity. Not surprising since it has been completely cut off from new users for almost 20 years. If anything, it is surprising there are still users. Our resident archivist recently said there about 150 people who post every month on LUE. That includes people like me who probably have less than 10 posts a month on LUE.

This.
I can see some new user asking a mod about the chances of getting your account hacked, and probably got a reply like It is extremely unlikely. And if somebody tries to hack an account, then they will most likely go after an older account that got more access than yours, like a mod or a lue account.

LUE used to be a very big player in edgy "Internet culture" (like 4chan and Somethingawful) in the early to mid 00s. It is not surprising hackers would target LUE accounts since it was the only way to access it. Compare that to 4chan which was always open and Somethingawful which could be bought for $10 or lurking when the paywall wasn't up.

It's technically true that those accounts would be targets for hackers, BUT the hackers have no way of knowing who opted in or not. They would just assume anyone with a low enough user ID might have access to LUE.

I do not have access to LUE. It would have been great circa 2005-2015.

Over the last 2 months I noticed a lot of Twitter and Youtubers complaining about stuff that happened years ago on Gamefaqs. No idea what caused the uptick.

I have an old enough account for LUE and think I had an invite, but I didn't really care enough also:

This is how I remember it. I am sure I visited but when the whole lockdown thing happened because of I think one event in particular, I never really bothered to follow up with the invite or stuff etc.

Its funny that LUE used to be a legit big and imfamous part of the Internet. However, it wasn't ever properly archived (well over 99.99% of LUE during its heydey is lost) so it's memory has faded mostly from the Internet expect the few times it comes up. The tales of it nowadays are essentially oral history.

Compare that to SomethingAwful, a website that nowadays is even deader that GameFAQs. However, it was archived and so it is more well known in Internet "canon".

I think I just missed the LUE window when I registered, or didn't have enough karma, or something.

ngl though that screenshot just kinda looks like PotD or CE's boards. Didn't GameFAQs nuke most of its legacy board content anyway? Like, if you browse most boards around there, there seems to be a distinct cutoff in terms of how far back you can go.

Social boards (like LUE and CE) never were archived officially by GameFAQs. Topics have always been automatically purged after X amount of time with no activity. Other types of boards started officially archiving around the year 2008.
