Important to note: no one in this office likes this particular director. Or at least, they don't trust her.

She comes into the office and in front of everyone is like "hey [pinky], I bought you something". And just hands me a present. Singles me out in front of the entire office, not out of a performance reward or anything but just because she was...thinking about me?

It's usually some weird trinket or something, but today really takes the cake. She bought me a coffee drip system that would probably be like 150 new, and she was like "don't worry I got it on facebook marketplace. It was advertised for 50 but I didn't pay that much. Probably paid 20 more than I should have, haha!"

The awkwardness is unbearable at this point. In a way I feel like my job is safe as houses but it just means everyone else is going to like me a lot less.

Wtf do I do?

If only companies had some sort of "human resources" department.

1) we actually don't, not really
2) the goal of these departments is to protect the company, not the worker. Who do you think they will favour, the director of the entire client services team, or a lowly account manager?

Been in similar situations, but it's usually been backed by my work performance. It paints a target on your back for sure, but so what. The only ones that would care are your lessers. What can a servant say to a king?
