Ada King, Countess of Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer, chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's proposed mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. Is a babe Was born at a time where women did not have equal rights Made herself into a genius writer and Mathematician and pretty much invented computer programming https://i.imgur.com/ubHExcI.jpg Sad thing is today she'd toally be a twitch thot --- ^ Hey now that's completely unfair! http://i.imgur.com/yPw05Ob.png ... Uhhhh... As a Countess she had significantly more "rights" than non-landed men. This wasn't France, England fought a war over inheritance through the mother's side of the family, as it was recognised here but not on the continent (due to their worse recognition of women). Hell, it was only in 1971 that women in Switzerland gained the right to vote in federal elections. ... Copied to Clipboard!

She wasn't born a countess and was already a popular respected scientist and considered a genius before she even got married, let alone becoming one. Lovelace was amazing in many ways but I always feel like it needs to be clarified a little bit that Charles Babbage was the mind behind the Analytical Engine and the programs written for it. Lovelace was a very close friend of Babbage's and helped him primarily as his translator. But Babbage, his machinist, and at least one or more of his sons knew how to and would've written "programs" for the Engines before Lovelace did. Her part is that she was the first to "publish" a program for the engine while adding an appendix and translating notes about the Engines. Babbage himself never really published anything about his work with the Engines even though he worked on them for decades. The whole story is a little complicated with a lot more details. I don't want to sound like Lovelace isn't still an important part of the story but these days her contribution seems to overshadow Babbage himself, which is a little silly. --- http://i.imgur.com/dzGMd.png ... It literally mentioned Charles Babbage in the summary. And saying "Well someone else could have done it first but they didn't" is a silly thing to say. You come accross as doing nothing but trying to diminish her contribution. --- ^ Hey now that's completely unfair! http://i.imgur.com/yPw05Ob.png ... Copied to Clipboard!
