Never understood the hate it got.

"No Bruce Campbell, no watch" is generally how it goes. My favourite horror movie though, I love Jane Levy.

Agreed. No Bruce worked great for what they were going for. Don't think I could have watched a serious horror version of Evil Dead with Bruce Campbell in it.

But seriously, I'd have loved some more Bruce but it was great even without him. Loved the special effects.

The climactic shot of the movie is one of the greatest pieces of cinema history.

It's good and extremely gory. I think people wanted more humor out of an Evil Dead movie. But damn, that ending with the raining blood was sick.

I felt like it definitely had some dark humor.

After the box cutter kiss scene, for example, the 'pretty boy' line, I laughed at that.

It certainly has humor, but I think comparatively it is a much more serious horror movie in the vein of the first one rather than 2 and 3.

i rewatched it last year and definitely enjoyed it more than the first time i saw it. it doesnt stand up to the old movies but its a neat take in its own right and the level of gore is a real spectacle that makes it worth seeing on its own

Dont remember hate. I remember pretty much what youre sayingpeople surprised it was as good as it was. Got rid of the camp, but it went hard with the horror. Good flick.

It definitely is. The first movie is pretty intense, and Bruce's first real foray into acting. The facial expressions, the acting, it was awesome. Bruce has always had one of the most expressive faces in Hollywood. Even when he hams it up, it's all in the facial expressions.

even with the first evil dead theres a running joke where Bruce gets thrown through a piece of furniture whenever something scary happens through most of the film that they laugh their asses off about in the dvd commentary

That is true. And by the end of the movie, the house is a mess with all that furniture and broken shit all over the place.

Yup. Just gave it a rewatch. Fantastic fucking movie.

Please bring back Jane Levy, if she wants to do it again. Pls.

Bruce Campbell was a producer for the 2013 film, and is an executive producer for the newest one , so he is still very involved with the series despite not being featured in the newer films. I dont think you can have Evil Dead without his influence.

Plus Raimi! Can't forget Sam, he's obviously a huge part of why the movies are so good. And, hell, Ted too.

It's weird. Jane Levy said in an interview she probably wouldn't come back. But when she saw the trailer for Evil Dead Rise she's saying she has FOMO.

Hopefully her and the protagonist of Rise can show up in another movie and take on some Deadites.

A lot of the hard-core fans I've spoken to are annoyed it isn't like 2 or AoD or AvED, or think it's bad.

I rarely had conversations with people who say it's good tbh.

It was a sharp departure from the tone of the original sequels and series, which were more comedies on top of a horror story. ED 2013 was just a straight fuck you, Im scary
