Good point, after all the #1 concern with population is not about resource consumption but rather how many toes we have to step on while moving about.

The wealthy are the reason that unsustainable abundance exists to begin with, though. Or did you think abundance came not from productivity, but from charity?

This argument can be applied to any overpopulated species, though.
Too many deer? They're starving due to eating all the grass and dying from disease? Well, that's not overpopulation, that's a failure to distribute grass in other places on earth to them and a failure to vaccinate them!

Overpopulation can be called anything else if you choose to see that else as the root cause instead.
