as a community college instructor (and adjunct at 4-years at times), I know adjuncts who have been doing it for decades.

I ended up getting a full-time job for a couple of years, but currently most likely going to quit that at some point to get out of academia doing something I can make more money in (I'm currently also working as an analyst at a market research firm)

That's about what I did. Research and writing skills are always in demand. Public speaking too.
