In the beginning, I used it on a fodder Pokemon. But later runs I memorized the route, and you can actually still see the outline of the walls/rocks, so that you didn't actually need Flash.

The very first time I played I put it on a good Pokmon because I didnt realise that you couldnt erase it. Same for cut.

I learned my lesson from that.

Yes at first. I was using the Nintendo Power guides lol.

Most of the times after that I was too stubborn and skipped Flash because it sucks.

These days I actually do go out of my way to pick up an hm slave because the annoyance of going to the PC for a single dungeon is less than the annoyance of not using Flash

I had a several month wait until Christmas when I would get the game, so in the meantime I spent countless hours reading any book or strategy guide I could about Pokemon. I memorized movesets, locations, pretty much everything. So when I finally got the game I was coasting through everything. Then I finally was ready to head through Rock Tunnel.

As I have studied this game so much, I knew that Flash would be required to get through easily. But its location was the one thing I couldn't find. I went to the area where it was supposed to be, but for whatever reason I missed the NPC who gives it to you. "Pfft, no problem!" young me thought. "This game has been so easy for me, I'll be fine."

I was lost in that cave for days, and too prideful to go back and look for Flash again. FINALLY I made it out, and was overjoyed like you wouldn't believe. I immediately walked into the first trainer on the route and my extremely weakened team got taken out. I had to start from the beginning.

This one traumatic incident is why I am excessively save in all aspects of life now. Defeat an easy trainer? Save. Type a single sentence on an assignment? Save. Any anytime something shuts down unexpectedly and I am able to restart with only minimum losses, I think back to that cave.

First play through I didnt know it was there so did the tunnel blind, kinda became a tradition after that.

No, Gen 1 was pretty forgiving and let you see the general shape.
Fumbling around in pitch black in Gen 2? Noooo thanks. Gotta have Flash.
Gen 3? I'd rather have Flash again. The small circle of vision almost feels like it's taunting me with how little it helps me since everything looks the same and there're no landmarks.

No, I wasn't a very bright kid when I played. I made it through in the dark, though.

There were no running shoes yet. And despite Diglett Tunnel being linear and not too long, it FELT long because I swear the encounter rate felt high in there lol

when I was a dumb babby yeah. But now you can see the walls and there's no items so there's no point. It's such a pointless HM for literally 1 dungeon

Or give it to Pikachu if I'm using it since Pikachu doesn't have good enough moves to need all four slots anyway

Not the first time, no. Helped my friend brute force through that cave with no flash. When I got the game though, I got flash, because no way was I doing it blind a second time.
