Apparently there's like four different control schemes? There's Classic (which is the GC controls), twin-stick, motion aiming, and a mix of motion+classic.

Anyway, $40 was a bit much at first, but honestly they completely re-did all the visuals in this game. Everything has new models, greatly improved textures, new lighting and special effects...and I think even extra content (mostly just dioramas to view 3D models, may be more?). I went ahead and bought it.

At least looking at the graphical update softens the blow. It's VERY nice.

Those have been dead since later issues of the Gamecube version, and especially in the Trilogy version. Hell, there's a lock over the door to the Plasma Beam until you get the Power Bombs now.

If you mean are they going to add those tricks back in... hopefully, but doubtful.

Ah, that's no fun. Sequence breaking is one of my favorite things to do in MP1. Might consider getting the remaster, anyway, but I'll stick mostly to randomizers with the original release.

I'm stocking up on the physical copies. I have a good feeling about the value of the game.

Early Space Jump is still possible with a precise triple bomb jump, at least.

Tbh, I have the trilogy on the Wii U (and have 1 and 3 physical) but I'm going to get this as it will be a lot more comfy to play with than either of those versions.

It's nice they went all-in on actually updating the graphics rather than throwing an HD port of it.

I remember never being able to beat the final boss after countless tries (inb4 git gud) and eventually gave up and never played it again. Passed on the sequels. Maybe I should give it another go with the remaster.

I found Ridley more difficult.

I bought Breath of the Wild instead. Played Metroid Prime before, but not that Zelda game.

Did they finally announce it officially. Awesome

I remember the eponymous Metroid Prime giving me a lot of hell, as well as Omega Pirate. I don't remember Meta-Ridley being super-tough, but I might have just have good memories of finishing him off with that Proton Pack-esque Wave Beam special, which was always a lot of fun.

MP2's bosses were way tougher overall.

I played the tutorial/prologue section of the first one, and I don't really get this game. Is it supposed to be more of a horror version of Metroid? Because the game is really slow-paced and there were a lot of logs and backstory to read like in Resident Evil, and it seemed like they were going for a really creepy atmosphere. The combat was pretty boring as it seemed like you mostly just lock on and have a million hit points, so I really wasn't able to enjoy it on that level.

It's not a "horror" version of Metroid; it's just Metroid. Metroid has always been clearly inspired by Alien, so there's always been a creepy atmosphere to it.

It's a first-person adventure.

Not horror at all. Just supposed to be an immersive Metroid experience

Retro designed it to be a bit creepy, but not specifically "horror". The idea was that you're exploring a planet by yourself, and since you're behind the visor for the first time, they wanted to express that feeling of solitude.

I would imagine they got the idea of log book stuff from Resident Evil or something similar.

Combat's pretty easy at first. Remember this was a very experimental game for its time, so I think they wanted you to get used to the controls before throwing you into the harder enemies.

That makes sense I guess, I don't remember many FPS games on Nintendo consoles at the time.

Phantoon still creeps me out more effectively than most modern horror media.

But I already got my steelbook from the Wii days though, the motion controls probably won't be as precise as on the Wii (fuck anyone who says that stick is better, keyboard and mouse or a close equivalent is the best method of playing a FPS), and I already got some games in mind to buy for later this month like Octopath 2.

Don't forget too that Metroid Prime only had the first three Metroid games as inspiration, and Super was quite creepy.

Yeah, except only the first Alien is really a horror movie, and Super arguably takes after the action-heavy Aliens more than the first film. That's why I was asking if it had more of a horror feel to it, like the first Alien and Metroid NES.
