This topic gave me the itch to replay some rise. I forgot how much I hate playing online

try to do a basic warm up quest. Two people run in and faint in the first 3 min

Yeah. Back when I tried to play Dauntless, I loved it as long as me and my friends were playing. Tried queueing up with strangers and realized right away that this is not gonna work.

I dunno why I thought they had very similar heads. You're right.

Starting to hit the wall now. Got KO'd by both Zinogre and Barioth so I had to retry the mission. Learning slowly now, but a lot of the time it's attacks that feel undodgeable. And I can't for the life of me get the hang of the iframes on the hunting horn perform attack.

Do you have a specific build with your armor? Or just using whatever

for what its worth the names aren't similar in japanese, just lazy EN TL (regarding barroth/barioth)

No, just using whatever right now. I'm not entirely sure what to look for in terms of abilities. Feels like among HR stuff, I haven't unlocked a lot of pieces that are really good.

I like to follow either this

or the monsterhuntermeta sub Reddit for build ideas to help through till postgame. Just build around these and slot in skills you like. Between these two pages they should list the most important skills for each weapon

also make sure youre keeping your armor at max level as much as possible and that you keep an eye on elemental stats its possible the armor you have has really bad electric or ice stats

Went back to the bow today. In the end I wasn't super happy with the dual blades. I wish they had even less animation commitment. I'm starting to develop a sense for what I like and don't like with almost every weapon at this point. I think the only ones I haven't tried at all are hammer, instrument hammer, great sword, and the bowguns. I'll get to them eventually. Maybe not the bowguns.

Don't sleep pn the Hunting Horn. It's actually very easy to use now, the buffs last a good while, and iirc, you can continuously heal yourself.

I like it a lot! But the iframes... I have no idea when they're supposed to be.

The guide suggests two Zinogre pieces for my rank. This will be nasty. But there's also another rampage fight to get to HR7? I thought I was done with that crap.

Well no, but I'd think if you already have a Barioth, you might wanna go more towards something like Borboroth or Barboroth or something. But I bet they had more factors to take into account.

I remember in Tri (my first monhun) I did find it a bit confusing, but in the end they're so different in design it didn't end up being too bad.

I was also reading a book with a character named Bairoth at the time, which didn't help.

I'll be completely honest and admit that I'm paying very little attention to the lore and monster names and stuff as well. So it's easy for me to get confused.

I really hate hunting horn in this game. Making the songs autoplay made it way too easy while simultaneously they nerfed the damage that Iceborne brought to it

What about using it in echo mode? From what I understand, it still has merits.

The last three monsters (zinogre, barioth, and anjanath) have all killed me a lot before I finally managed to eke out a win. And the anjanath armor pieces look really good for hunting horn users. I guess this will be good practice for me to learn some patience.

Anjanath is tough for new hunters. He was a wall for many many people in World.
Barioth is tough even for some moderate level players. Similar to Nargacuga breaking his wings makes him less mobile.

Out of the three, barioth felt the hardest by far. There were so many attacks I just couldn't figure out how to avoid. But I think I need to make better use of the silkbind X attack. I always mess up and confuse the A and X silkbind moves for this weapon.

I saw a guide by a speed runner that said the bread and butter combo should be essentially ZR into A cycles over and over and that helped a little bit.

Sounds like a fun weapon.

I like it a lot! I just wish it were clearer about the iframes on ZR. I don't think I've managed to dodge a single thing even on the training dummy with it. And people are like "it's so many iframes". ??? But it's quite fun to bonk with it, and I particularly enjoy the lack of charge attacks that most of the other slow weapons have.

Today I'll have to farm Zinogre. But I can't figure out his attacks like at all. The anjanath I kinda got the hang of. Let's see how I do with Zinny.

I hate Magnamalo because he's the obnoxious, full on Naruto-crap conclusion of Zinogre's existence.

What do you think of rajang then?

I'm fine with Rajang, not sure why. I think it's that his colour scheme looks kind of natural for a monkey whereas Zinogre just screams anime.

Also when he's not throwing thunderbeams and balls at you, his attacks look pretty great for an ape, grabs and punches and shit. I'm okay with an extra flair when you have a good base.

Literally nothing about Zinogre is believably wolf-like. It's 100% anime.

I hear you. To me zinogre is a bit nostalgic since he reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy behemoths. But he's aggravating as hell because I can't figure out how to beat him efficiently.

i liked it but not as much as i did MH World. didnt have that sense of epicness as that game had...

Right. Managed to get all my zinogre items, I think. Up next is the nargacuga to complete my build (for now). Here's hoping I have enough zinny stuff over to craft a lightning flute.

I've been completely out of money for a while. Then I found a whole bunch of eggs in storage that sold for like hundreds of thousands lol. And I've been running fast quests just to get line 5k/run.

Got nargacuga once. But I need to kill it a lot because I need a pretty low percentage drop, and maybe more for the weapon. But in that case I need a claw from something called rakna-kadaki that I haven't faced yet. I'm kinda thinking maybe I should get the magnamalo weapon though but I need its plate? Which has an absurdly low drop rate.

Check the argosy for rare items I think it is. After every quest it may sell Ore/Rocks that are for selling that only costs points. Usually its something that sells for 1000 or so. But Ive seen a few that sell for 20,000

Yeah.. already in high rank he's incredibly annoying. I had to go and restock potions and mega potions to be safe. But at least now I feel like the attacks are dodgeable. Just very hard to read.

The only thing else you can really do is assemble a Gathering set to boost item collection. Then go to the Lava zone and farm Ore/Rocks. I think that sells for a lot as well (although that was base rise)

Here's hoping I'll stay afloat long enough that it won't be a big issue. I recently got a new job that starts on March 1st so until then I'll have lots of time to play. After not so much. So I'll have to burn out before then I guess.

Thanks friend! Yeah I'll definitely stick with it for a while. Even longer if I had friends to play with regularly, I can imagine that's really fun.

My time on Rise has been 95% hunting horn, it's damage is nerfed pretty hard from World but it's still very satisfying landing those bonks. The silk bug moves are pretty meh imo, but the "strong" one that takes two bugs is probably the better one. The combo-dash move I've never gotten good value out of, it's primary purpose seems to be building the demon song meter so maybe it's good idk.

As for songs to look for, attack up is always good. Affinity up is good too, can save you 3 levels of crit eye iirc. Healing songs are generally not that good, they don't do enough to offset damage taken and you'll likely still need to potion for most hits. For defense songs, the only good ones imo is sonic barrier and earplugs (preferably Large). Sonic barrier is probably my favorite, the number of times I've saved myself or a friend from losing their combo is uncountable.

Thanks for the tips! I've also noticed that the heals are pretty lackluster. Saves me like 1-2 pots per hunt at the most. Sonic Barrier seems like it has a really short uptime? That or it gets popped by anything.

The combo-dash move is decent for getting your infernal melody out faster I guess, but I mostly use it on accident when I wanna do the other one.

Both lol, but with the right timing you can power through hits and roars alike.

Got a bit bored today and tried the long sword again. I really can't get that stupid weapon to work. I'm just so bad at counter attack timing. Went against the Barioth and he just killed me all the time. Back to the horn lol :)

I'm kinda playing around with various elements based on the enemy. But I have no idea if it's actually making a difference.

I picked up the lance again now. Kinda loving it even more now tbh. With my low skill, it almost feels like I'm getting more DPS out of it than out of the horn. Probably gonna stick with it for a while, although that means entirely rethinking my gear.
