He direct-messaged former Mad magazine editor Allie Goertz, a longtime fan who was prepping a Rick and Morty concept album: Can you write a song about 9 Dicks of different sized and ethnic origins hanging above your face, and then in the lyrics describe how they each splatter you with semen. He allegedly messaged another woman, who posted the exchange using an anonymous Twitter account and claimed to have been underage when they began corresponding, You should just run away from home and go into sex slavery YOU FUCKING STUPID F***** B***** (!!!) (Jk).

At some point during the third season of Rick and Morty, multiple sources say Roiland simply stopped showing up and when he did turn up in the Burbank offices, hed typically avoid the writers room. In fact, Roilands colleagues often knew he was there only because they could hear his dogs. Or theyd hear his remote-control toy car, which had a microphone on top of it, zooming around the office. At least once, Roiland sent it into the writers room, says a source. You wouldnt have seen him in weeks, and then youd see the car come in, which was insane. (A source close to Roiland points out that many showrunners step away from successful shows once theyve been established to tackle other projects.)

By that time, Roiland had a girlfriend, who became a fiance, and he would talk openly about their penchant for threesomes. It was something we just ignored because it was disgusting, says an insider. A source close to Roiland contends that the threesome discussions were in the context of plotline. Multiple sources say it was also during that period that Roiland sent a female employee a really creepy text, late at night, requesting that she come to his home (they declined to name the staffer). She didnt want to run it up the flagpole, says one of the sources, and then it was just this really fucked-up, awkward thing.

In the meantime, the relationship between Harmon and Roiland had grown so acrimonious that the show brought in a mediator to try to salvage what was once an inspired partnership.

The staffs of Roilands shows describe feelings of disgust, fury and betrayal as they waited on the fates of their series, which they worried were now tainted, in the days immediately following the Jan. 12 news reports. We didnt know if it would all go away, says a source. Then the situation snowballed, with a raft of Roilands deeply troubling online interactions being shared across social media.

The reason that I posted my DMs was to add to the mountain of evidence and the pattern of behavior, tattoo artist Veronika Sweeney tells THR of the messages she released in which Roiland asks if she has a boyfriend and suggests they meet at Comic-Con. Former Mad editor Goertz, who posted an exchange in which Roiland requested that she write a song about a crude sexual act, says that she also received pornographic GIFs and propositions from him, telling THR: I really think that he, in a lot of ways, took advantage of someone who couldnt have been a bigger fan.

Old interviews that Roiland had done were suddenly being resurfaced, too. Back in 2011, appearing on a podcast, he joked that he would be attracted to a fucking 14-year-old that looks like shes 18 and [has] big titties and riffed on Dateline NBCs To Catch a Predator segments. (In the same breath, he added, Im not a pedophile though.) His work, which has long made comedy hay of subjects like incest and sexual deviance, was now being viewed through a different lens.

Harmon was very shitty to Megan Ganz when she was a writer on Community but she has since forgiven him after he apologized publicly.

It sounds like hes a really toxic immature adult that said things the average person wouldnt get in trouble for if he wasnt famous.

What the other poster said and in addition, nothing related to sexual harassment like Roiland. Article even states mildly that he was a controlling asshole boss with his projects which conflicted with Roiland's wgaf work attitude.

Check Facebook comments lol. I dont condone what he sent to that girl on Twitter or when he joked about a 14 year old, but a lot of this sounds like someone with a really immature mind set and sense of humor. He shouldnt have a job with so much control either.

He's a terrible artist, he can't write anything decent on his own, he's an abysmal voice actor and by all accounts isn't professional around anyone.

I think that's just what Harmon thought Adult Swim wanted.

Harmon, who had just been fired from his cult NBC comedy Community over his chaotic leadership style, was approached by Adult Swim he worried, however, that he wouldnt be able to fit in with the networks renegade brand on his own.

I could probably steal their money and write something for them. They may even put it on the air, Harmon said in a 2014 interview about Rick and Mortys origin. But its not gonna make people happy the way it is if Justin Roiland is involved. Thats whats for sale over there. Its doing things wrong on purpose. Its punk rock. And so, I called Justin immediately.

That was a James Gunn type situation though, where right wingers were just pretending to be offended because Harmon's been publicly critical of Trump. They'll bring it up again when Harmon's in the limelight, but right now everyone's only focused on Roiland.

It's fucking crazy how he squandered the lifestyle of being able to dick around and write and perform jokes for fun. All it would take was to not treat women like garbage and property.

Given that adult swim was mostly mcfarlane type animation and humor already it didn't stand out too much and was at least a tiny bit unique.
