Sounds like your dads right. And theyre your kids, your dad doesnt need an excuse to not be available to babysit and drop your kids off on demand.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Even if you owned your home outright a large chunk of that 30k would get sucked up in property taxes alone.

unless CA changed its law recently, valuation can only go up like 1 or 2% per year. So if you bought a place for $100k in 1980, it would maybe be like $200k today assessed value. This was the result of some citizen proposition way back in the day.

^I heard they were trying to get rid of that for family members who inherit houses

They want to start charging them market rate for property tax

30k is not enough but good for him for having a pension, something that most of CE will never be get because it is not a thing anymore.

Perhaps he can live elsewhere with a cheaper cost of living.

TC, I hope this is a joke topic. Although based on your precious topics about financial situations, it probably is

Forget a pension, a lot of CE might not even make it to retirement unless you have a lot of money in the bank (especially investments) and you never have to work again

30k a year? For SF? That's pretty damn low. 2.5k per month. You would need a whole lot of that for rent and you'd probably have a roomate. And no car. Yeah, that's pretty damn low. You'd have to get food stamps for sure.
