When people argue roguelike vs roguelite, I have one thought:

-Across the Obelisk
-Griftlands
These two are for sure fun. ATO is definitely more difficult until you figure out synergies between the classes, and you grind out some meta benefits for them too. But other than that you can consistently win if you play it right. The currency system they have along with purchasing specific cards makes it much more simpler to not have a total ass time and carve out some semblance of fairness.

Griftlands is just fun. Get Griftlands before ATO for sure.

Here are all of the roguelikes I've played. I think they're all great.

Binding of Isaac
Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
Rogue Legacy
Rogue Legacy 2
Crypt of the Necrodancer
One Step from Eden
20XX
30XX
FTL
Enter the Gungeon

Also trying to draw a line between "Roguelikes" and "Roguelites" is a pointless endeavor imo. It really only seems to be argued by purists who think the latter are inferior games because they don't have the same/as many hardcore elements as the former.

I think it would be nice to be able to tell from a glance at the genre whether there's a fresh start every run or some form of progression between runs. So I like the distinction between like and lite in that respect.

Also, I might be looking forward to Hades 2 more than I am LoZ: Tears of the Kingdom or FFXVI.

The distinction is actually super simple.

Roguelike = Like Rogue
Roguelite = literally anything else

When talking about new games to play its annoying to make the distinction. Like yes we know theres no meta upgrade when playing a Roguelike instead of a Roguelite but its the permadeath, the build diversity and randomly generated areas we prefer.

what I like about Griftlands so much is the style of it, the artwork is just fun and the setting and characters are all really cool, and theres so much to sink your teeth into with the gameplay
I was severely off put by the art style of monster slayers. I own it but I'm just so turned off by it.

I really want to try Grift lands.. I trust it's good because it's made by Klei who made Don't Starve (One of the best wilderness survival games I've ever played with a Tim Burtonesque twist and oh Oxygen not Included, also one of the best colony Sims I've ever played).
