Do either succeed? Both? Who has an easier time? Who catches them?

Each-others, because those rooms will be vacant at the time.

For simplicity, lets say it's no specific room, they just have to infiltrate their personal quarters and take something. The idea is to force them to get in and explore, thus risking getting caught.

Martian Manhunter gets this done pretty fast and easy

NGL I forgot about phasing. No phasing allowed so it doesn't get too trivial >.>;

Wolverine would be able to detect Jon's subterfuge, ditto Xavier and Jean Gray, not sure who else though I'm sure there's more.

For Mystique, the big threats for discovery I think would be Superman and Batman.

Manhunter does this with ease. You're talking about a shapeshifter psychic who can pass through walls and isn't far off from Superman in terms of speed.

Mystique is a chick who can change her appearance. Depending on her intel on the JL she might be able to get in and get out, but she's gotta stay perfectly on character since the JL is filled with psychics and paranoid street heroes who won't hesitate to call out whoever she's pretending to be as acting off.

True, and unless his powers have changed recently, MM can turn invisible.

That sounds pretty useful for covert infiltration.

It's still completely trivial. You'd be better off pairing Mystique against someone like Clayface.

Wolverine and professor X would know pretty instantly.

MM will then know he's among friends with his psychic powers, explain his issue, the misunderstanding would be cleared up, and the good guys group together to overcome.

For mystique

I'm pretty sure superman would know instantly, I'm pretty sure I remember him using super smell somewhere.

Batman would know instantly, but pretend not to until after the catch, and then the narrative would give some super complex and contrived explanation showing the lead up afterwords.

Because she's generally a member of marvels rouge gallery more often than not, shed get a stern talking to and then sent back to her dimension.

Only trouble Manhunter runs into is Xavier himself and Manhunter could probably beat him down and wipe his memory.

Mystique gets figured out by Batman in like 10 seconds.

FWIW I think Mystique would beat Clayface in this competition. While I think Clayface has more durability, strength, and the ability to go through pipes and stuff, he's also a lot dumber than Mystique and lacks her lifetime of espionage experience.

Martian Manhunter has basically every single telepathic ability that Xavier has with the benefit of not being in a wheelchair

Manhunter fails immediately due to Logan sniffing him out. If Logan is not present, he gets out.

Mystique fails immediately due to Superman and Batman.

I mean a 5 year old can beat down Xavier in a physical confrontation.

I don't think he'd be able to succeed in a mental battle though.

Although I'm convinced that during the mental battle they realize they are both good guys, and band together.

Unless this is taking place in the early 2000's were all good guys had to fight with themselves while almost all the bad guys sighed and kicked rocks.around out of boredom.

Reminder that Jonn is not only a shapeshifter but the most powerful telepath on his world.

Chameleon Boy would be a fairer match.

Literally Manhunter can enter, scan minds to find out where the room is, go invisible and phase to the room. If you nerf phasing, then he can still fly while invisible and get to the room. Or he could shapeshift into a mouse or something. Literally he's too OP for this task.

Batman with 6 months to plan infiltrates both.

Mystique would win cause MM is a jobber. MM would turn invisible, sneak in, read minds until he gathered the appropriate intel, then bump into a candle and burst into flames.

Praising and shape shifting aside manhunter can also turn invisible. And even if he's caught stat wise there aren't very many X-Men aside from maybe Rogue who could even face him head on.

And I can't think of any main X-Men off the top of my head that wields fire aside from wtf the Phoenix is possessing currently now.
