I agree as to the update of Superman. Frankly, the character is a conduit for philosophy and cultural justice, and the latter is entirely the concept of the original Superman. My issue with Snyder Superman is that it didn't try to dally in either of those categories and was more focused on religious iconography for the character, which I think is only earned after achieving something meaningful in the other two categories.

I remember Animal Man being good!

Also Wonder Woman which is a weird grey area - it was an ongoing series completely rebooted but isn't anything like previous versions. It also suffers from the "should have been an Elseworlds" problem, because the edginess was divisive but no one would care if it wasn't "canon."

I Iiked it! And I HATE JT Krul, so I'm just as shocked as you. The man commited war crimes against Green Arrow.

I won't pretend the Freddie Williams art wasn't doing 80% of the heavy lifting, though.

I also considered Wonder Woman and it was cool at the time, especially the Chiang art, but I don't remember it fondly.

My Wonder Woman tastes are very wierd, though, from what I can tell. Simon's run is my favorite.

Also Red Hood and the Outlaws had absolutely gorgeous art from Kenneth Rocafort, who's one of my favorite artists in all of comics, but obviously that book was not good lol.

I tried to follow a lot of the new 52 for like a year or so, but it felt tough to keep up with. I mostly remember how terrible the Teen Titans from then was.

I think if they tried to keep Cavill pinned into every animated series and video game in the last 10 years they woulda had a bad time

Right, and addition the concerns about justice for someone as grim as Snyder tend to focus on "how far should Superman go?" or "why doesn't he do more?" when he's just not well suited to that kind of thing. Frankly it's all kinda Bush-era. We've had so many authoritarian Superman takes and you just have to stretch the character SO much that it's become played out, and you're better off going with an expy.

Your Authority take is real smart, you give those questions to them because they're extremely good at dealing with it, and have Superman stand as a contrast.

When you pose Superman in that position, you get to make him that "Smiling Wise Man", which I think is always a great take on the character and works best in titles like the JLA. Superman can't help but appear greater than 'man' because his mission is timeless and his methods don't bend with the changing mentality of societies and politics. Argh! It makes me so excited to think that Morrison's Superman is a template the way it should be, again.

I was sitting here racking my brain trying to remember when Scott Synder did Superman.

Thats embarassing.

Naw I also always have at least a couple seconds when the name Snyder is brought up in relation to comics where my brain has to sort it out.

I'm sure Scott isn't happy about it.

Funnily enough he DID do a Superman run somewhere in the middle of New 52 era which I never read.

I've never actually been a huge S Snyder fan. I really liked The Black Mirror, his Swamp Thing was good, and his Batman in general is pretty solid, but once he started shkwing up all over the place I wasn't digging it as much, and I've never been able to get into his independant comics much either.

And Metal sucked. Batman Who Laughs was good in that very first story, though.

I wonder how much more animated stuff theres gonna be. Seems like the Tomorrowverse movies they started are a completely separate thing not counted as any of this, but like man Id love to see some characters get an animated series or even just be included as a major character in one. Kinda hilarious Teen Titans Go is up there though. Thats been running a lot longer than I expected when it first debuted.

Yeah what's not here says so much more than what is, lol.

The lack of Young Justice sadly means it's probably done for good, but we assumed that.

Glad Superman and Lois is there, was so afraid it was gonna get canned, it looks really good!

I heard they might shop some of them around if possible, but who knows. Cant blame a guy for wanting another animated Batman series though. DCs animated works at least have pretty much always been solid from what Ive seen so Id like to see them invest more in those too.

At least I can likely look forward to The Doom That Came to Gotham and Legion of Super-Heroes on HBO Max this year, but I feel like theres a nice audience size that would lose their minds if we got a new Justice League animated series or something.

Also no Harley Quinn animated on there.

And man CW is down to just Superman now. Just a few years ago they had so many dc shows.

Doom Patrol was probably always ending where its ending

i think the creators said they had a four season plan. Maybe if it had gotten renewed they would have kept going, but its at least going to have an intentional finale.

Okay, that makes me feel better about it then. As long as it's not a sudden axe and we get a proper conclusion.
