I'm not sure that's the best example, it's a dude trapped in a giant mech suit with his heart expose. That line seems pretty self-explanatory. <_<

why is he randomly telling you things? Like get away from me while following you around making noise.

IIRC handymen and other bosses (like
the ghost) were going to have a much bigger role in the game, like, fully fledged characters

It's narratively shoddy compared to its predecessors. That's my big one.

It's already been mentioned, but the whole "both sides are bad" message for Founders/Vox is absolutely off-base, to the point where when you're fighting Vox they have the exact same combat units as the Founders, just slightly different weapons.

Plasmids tied into the theming of Bioshock with it being a product of the rare processed material that everyone's fighting over and a result of their objectivist ideals leading to "forbidden" research. Vigors are just... there. Because we needed to have Plasmids, right?

I feel the "infinite worlds" story was the one they wanted to tell, which is why they focused so poorly on the "racism is bad" premise of the setting.

infinite was supposed to be a criticism on the hard right, just like bioshock was about capitalism, but they got cold feet and made a bOtH sIdEs narrative and it feels forced

It feels forced because it is forced, and that's just part of why it's bad.

For me the plot loses its way around the part with Chen(?) and the guns.

overall it's still decent as far as video game stories though.

I fucking hated the two weapon system. More so because all the Vox weapons were useless

It's just super dumb that Booker and Elizabeth think that the solution to completing a deal with a dude is to move to a reality where they've never spoken to him.

Credit where it's due though, the game is very good at obfuscating how stupid it is. It wasn't until after I finished it and starting really thinking about it that I realized so much of it makes no sense.

I thought of another one, but the game may actually explain this.

I seem to remember there being a thing where if you're dead in another reality, it really fucks you up. Like you're semi-catatonic. But with infinite realities, that just means everyone would be brain dead because surely you're dead in one of them.

I'll cop to this. Sort of. Even while playing, the two-weapon limit irked my nerves.

But I enjoyed it despite that because:

BioShock Infinite felt like they made a carnival ride version of the first game. It has very similar beats, but keeps you moving along and make sure your arms are inside the car at all times. It has similar characters and motivations as the first game, but everything has now been dolled up to be exaggerated carnival representations of those same characters and concepts. This all means that by the time you found something interesting you may want to learn more about, you're already being shuttled down the rail to the next set piece and the game would prefer you not think too much about what you just saw.

Nah, I agree with you. Two felt much more like a publisher mandated sequel. The fact that you're going back to rapture and the big twist is "what if religion instead of capitalism", combined with the fact that you do feel slower and clunkier as a big daddy, definitely made the second game feel very mediocre. That being said, the second game has the best vigor and trap system of the three so you end up being able to do some of the coolest and craziest stuff in the franchise in that game.

I hate that it made the original Bioshock (Rapture) part of a multiverse and the events that happen in both games tied with one another. I would have been fine with a not so-direct connection that we could speculate on but oh well.

Eh, the name still being Bioshock heavily implied that its still very connected. But I do see your point, I thought this would end with Columbia crashing and its skeleton becomes Rapture, not a multiverse.

I dont think the problem was that we didnt have the technology, its that in general AAA game companies tend to cut corners A LOT. Making a fully 3D modern game is expensive, takes super long, needs tons of people working on it and theres often tight deadlines. Until we can more efficently make games then this will be an inevitability.

Oh and also if you are a basic grunt worker you are easily replacable because "everyone wants to code games as their career!".
