Doesn't generational poverty exists no matter what color you are? I thought things like affirmative action were meant to counter this, at least if you're a minority. Laws and financial policies that made it harder for certain races to get land Ok so - A) You believe that generational poverty exists for all races (makes sense) - *why* do you believe that means it affects all races equally? B) Something countering a bad thing doesn't mean it *completely* erases it.. a bulletproof vest doesn't completely erase the danger of bullets Apparently I've got a pretty bad education and I'm white/Spanish. dioxxys posted... I thought this was based off income and/or living in a poor area? I tried googling this so I would have to ask lessMy definition didn't capture the whole issue - it's both things that make it hard for minorities to get land AND make areas with minorities worse https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redlining In the United States, redlining is a discriminatory practice in which services (financial and otherwise) are withheld from potential customers who reside in neighborhoods classified as "hazardous" to investment; these neighborhoods have significant numbers of racial and ethnic minorities, and low-income residents.[2] While the most well-known examples involve denial of credit and insurance, also sometimes attributed to redlining in many instances are: denial of healthcare and the development of food deserts in minority neighborhoods.[3][4] In the case of retail businesses like supermarkets, the purposeful construction of stores impractically far away from targeted residents results in a redlining effect.[4] Credit to you for this - personal experience is rarely a good way of judging society as a whole. Yes there are poor people of all races *but* the things keeping people of some races poor are much worse.
There are a lot of poor minorities in inner city areas, correct - you'll notice there aren't that many international restaurants in *inner* city areas, they tend to be in the nicer parts of cities.

dioxxys, i'm going to pretend for like, a minute here, that I don't believe you are being disingenious with your line of questioning and you are just genuinely unfamiliar with a lot of what people are talking about. That's fine. This isn't a lecture hall on racial history in the united states. Folks here can give you a gist, we can give you a starting point. Some of the more well read folks can prolly even recommend some reading (not me, all my knowledge is a mix of random articles i can't remember where they were, and the wikipedia rabbit hole). If you're genuinely just uneducated on these things, now is the time to educate yourself, but playing 20 questions in this topic will only get you so far before nobody believes you aren't being disingenuous and everybody stops trying. --- "Now, was that civilized? No, clearly not. Fun, but in no sense civilized." ... Copied to Clipboard!

dioxxys posted... It made sense but it still came across as my original perception of it? Briefly, your original perception (if I remember your post correctly) focused on intention - police actively going after minorities because they are asked to - the distinction being made is how unintentional things play as big (or even bigger) role. A few examples off the top of my head: *A black person wearing a hoodie being perceived differently and thus "more suspicious" *Police training/guidelines focusing on looking for specific locations etc (i.e. "we need to patrol more in the inner city") *Unconscious racial bias not being addressed *Harsher sentences that lead to the next person reading their file having a worse perception ...
