It had a higher audience score so I thought I'd like it but it's very meh. Denzel deserved a better script and movie because even a half assed performance is still good.

Chloe grace moretz plays the cliche underage teen prostitute being abused by the mob, which is cringe but she just serves as a catalyst for the movie so that Denzel can get revenge for her and take down the mob

The best scene was the beginning one when he killed those russian guys because of the editing. Everything else was yeah, generic.

The second movie actually manages to be much worse.

Found it. Sadly the rest of the movie doesn't even have fight scene that look anything as stylized as this.

The high audience score comes from people who were perfectly content seeing a top-level actor like Denzel carry a mid-level action movie where he kills the bad guys and doesn't afraid of anything (or maybe people who were really nostalgic for the old TV series). And like blackrider said, the sequel is a noticeable step down from even that.

Check out Man on Fire if you haven't already - similar premise, but actually great.

I remember man on fire! The one with Dakota fanning right. Back when she was the go to for any movie that needed a kid actor

actually I barely remember it... but holy shit why does if also have such a low rt score I don't remember it being awful. High audience score though, more than equalizer

Did these movies even make enough money to justify sequels, I'd never heard of them before and I'm a Denzel fan watched flight and everything.

Its just a complete non-event of a film and Im amazed that they made sequels.

I mean for most of Denzel Washington films, you watch one you kind of watched them all. He's basically the Liam Neeson when it comes to action movies starring him. Some people just really love braindead action films like this or they wouldn't be making them consistently. My uncle watches all kinds trashy action flicks on netflix and it seems they're never out of them lol.

I've noticed Netflix has a whole bunch of those, there's one with Chris Pratt, one with Chris Evans, there's a Ryan gosling one... I'm gonna watch the one with ana de Armas because I really like her and hope she's in the movie a lot
