...abortion legislation , when it seems that the overwhelming majority of americans, are against it? i mean, when abortion was put up to a popular vote, abortion rights were reaffirmed in every case, right?

If Republicans cared about what the majority of the country wanted, they wouldn't do a lot of things that they do.

Its a moral crusade. You can trace the anti-abortion movement back to christian conservatives like Jerry Falwell and Phyllis Schlafley. Absolutely nasty despicable people.

Cause Republican voters that against it will still vote R and if went pro abortion or at least leave it alone they would lose the crazies they just recently picked up.

Republicans have to pander to Christians because they have nothing else to offer people. They only care about the rich but still need to get people to vote for them.

Anti abortion laws help keep poor people poor, which is one of the goals of the Republican Party

Republicans didn't spend nearly 50 years and billions of dollars just to give up this easily on banning abortion

Because they are horrible people that hate women and freedom

That's what gets them elected, which just highlights our fucked up election process. We're constantly held hostage by the overall minority.

it may sound ridiculous, but how many alt-right people and Chan posters say stuff like giving women voting rights was a mistake?

the other (minorities, women, lgbtq) have made gain in the 21st century, and the alt right is hell bent on turning that back.
