Parking brake on, using it frequently is good for it. Keeps rust from building on moving parts and seizing them.

Do you also always wear a seat belt? signal when changing lanes? turn on your headlights just because it's cloudy ? as long as you know what you're doing you don't really need to be so cautious when driving. People that constantly speed and change lanes without signaling because they are confident in their driving ability. People are more vigilant than you think.

If a spring in the parking brake shoe that's exposed to the elements doesn't move for months or years rust will build up, and turn the entire spring into a useless block. If the spring is moving constantly any rust that does form won't be strong enough to keep loops of the spring bound, keep cables from moving, etc.

Yeah, I do those things. Some people are vigilant, others are not. Not worth chancing it.

Also, I drive in an area where people go through red lights while looking at their phones all the time. Ill see it several times in any given journey. So no, I wouldnt trust their vigilance.

I always use my parking brake. Was a source of embarrassment back when I took my license test. She had me parallel park, which I did awkwardly and hit the curb. Then I reflexively used the parking brake and forgot I did, and it took me a second to figure out why I was having so much trouble leaving again. Can't believe I passed tbh.

I let my car run for a minute anyways before driving because it has a turbo.

I also let it run for a minute before turning it off after driving so the turbo can wind and cool down

Usually, I only do it when the road isnt flat Which is most places I go. Or where I am a lot Like my driveway is an incline And the parking lot at work isnt flat And Mann other places Even when the road is flat, I sometimes instinctively put it on

I mean, I always out on my seatbelt And I try to not make any lane changes without signaling, with the exceptions of emergencies where signaling isnt possible And for headlights, I use them quite often Its better to be cautious My brother is the type to speed and change lanes And some people can do it well But anyone can have an accident Even if they are vigilant, there are some things they may not be able to escape

You don't need to do that if you have electronic fuel injection, that was for the old carburetors to warm up and work properly. Most people here have likely never used a car that needed to warm up before use in the cold.

They say it's to keep the vehicle from moving if someone smashes into it. I say you have bigger problems if something smashes into your parked vehicle.

Always. Newer cars are probably different but years ago I was always taught that the parking brake is designed to hold the weight of the car and your transmission is not, and using the parking brake every time will make your transmission last longer. I was also taught to shift into neutral, the engage the parking brake, before shifting to park and vice-versa before reverse or drive, a habit I'm still in to this day.

In many states it's also technically illegal to park without the brake even on a flat surface, though it's largely never actually enforced
