All I heard was some lady mumbling to herself "I'm going to kill you" outside my door then she bashed my door, and then said "I'm your worst nightmare" and bashed a few more times

I ran to my room and called 911

It may seem like you'll never get normal again but trust me you will. I was a victim of a home invasion and never thought I'd feel safe in my house again.

You may have a few months of being hyper vigilant and even paranoid, probably won't sleep nights much at all but eventually it passes. It sucks and it's not fun but if you can persevere I'd try. Videogames help actually. I spent my months sitting on my bed playing Oblivion all night.

Hopefully she wasn't a victim of a violent crime seeking help but also has mental problems. On the other hand you don't want a crazied, violent drug addict pounding on your door either. Either way this is bad for your community. Do you best to be careful and protect yourself.

Either way, you are safe. Crazy things happen in life regardless of where you are or where you live. I think if you let this defeat you, it's going to make it that much harder to get out on your own in the future. Give yourself time to calm down, sleep on it for a couple nights and see how you feel.

Not good optics for the police. For some reason if you open a door to surprise attack someone attempting to break in they consider it assault which is insane. They tell you to call them and wait for their response, but if the person wanted to get in they'd be through that door before they'd respond in time. All you can do is either hide, escape through another way(if possible and you know it's probably secure), or get armed and be ready to fight back as soon as they start to breach.

Try to contextualize what happened, accept it as something that is real and happened. Next try to relax and remember you dont need to decide what to do right this second. You will think better the following day after some sleep. After that, realize that probability is on your side. What are the chances of this happening again? How long have you lived here before this happened? Get some easy defense options. Police said she may have been doing it on other doors, though I didn't hear anything before she bashed on mine so I felt it was maybe targeted to me. If I can get some info from the police and landlords to really prove it wasn't targeted to me I may feel more at ease

are tasers legal in Canada? I wouldnt be worried about an assault charge if it came down to that or a gun. I would get yourself a blink or ring camera after this too. That would make me paranoid for a while if it happened to me and a camera would help ease that some.

I feel like if your concern was that this was targeted, I'm pretty confident, especially if you didnt know who she was, that this was just random. I bet she was an addict of some sort, didnt have her mind about her, and it was just a drug fueled outlash that happened to be at your door tonight. 6 years and one incident isn't something I'd concern myself with.

Again though, calm down, sleep on it. Rational thought doesn't usually occur right after a traumatic experience. You are okay.
