It's the Post, so it's naturally going to have it's righty twist to it.

When in actuality, what they're looking to do is tighten some regulations that make the gas stoves safer and have them emit less harmful gasses and chemicals into what is usually the smallest room in most houses.

Which, in turn, would make many current stoves non-compliant with the new guidelines, making them, in theory "illegal" or "banned"

Why? Those are the best stoves

If this were to be enforced, how do they plan on compensating people for their current gas stoves..?

Haven't read the post, but this is probably for buying new stoves. They wouldn't be forcing people to replace existing stoves.

My assumption is the current stoves would be grandfathered in.

Kinda like the new regulation in places where you can only own/manufacture cars that get certain gas mileage, but cards you own prior to that are ok.

Any NEW gas stove would have to be compliant.

Fumes. They want to make it that if you have a gas stove you would need a hood over it that takes them outside. Existing stoves would be grandfathered in, but new home construction would need to take that into account.

Yeah, older stoves will most likely be grandfathered in. If not, and I doubt that, there would have be to electrical work done and you have to use bigger wire. You can't use what goes to a normal outlet. If that happens my job is going to be very busy. Yay, more attic work and crawling under houses!

Of course now all we're going to hear for the next couple of months is "Biden's coming to take your stoves!!!!1111" from the idiots and liars out there of a certain political persuasion.

What they're basically proposing is new regulations on the emission on new stoves, and a potential requirement for any new stove installation to have a hood and fan to the outside of a home.

People whining about this haven't tried induction stoves, they literally boil a pot of water in 3 minutes

That is a convection oven. An induction oven is a stovetop thing using magnets that has really good and fast temperature control.

This is completely unreasonable. There are stoves built into islands and in my home I have stucco walls so I'd have to drill through the fucking stucco to get a new stove if my current one breaks.

Which, I believe, is why it's just something that is in discussion. The rules and regulations can be adjusted based on where the stove is set within the room.

From what I've read, it will be more about restricting emissions on newly manufactured stoves.

At this point, the only thing that has really been put on paper is added rebates on electric stove purchases, and grants/rebates to offset costs incurred from converting from gas to electric, which were included in Biden's Inflation Reduction Act.

What makes you confident that this wasn't always an issue?

The bluer the flame, the cleaner the oven burns. You'll just get a bunch of water vapor as a result.

Probably could, but it looks like NOx is a cause for concern with hydrogen burners.

Yeah this looks worse than natural gas. You could safely have an internal hydrogen source but at that point you may as well use electric.

Induction is wonderful. I switched to it after having both gas and electric ovens. The electric one was far worse than the gas oven but the induction oven is definitely better and faster than the gas oven.

That being said, gas ovens aren't really the true money maker for gas companies. They're a way to get a foot in the door. Once a person has a gas oven they're more likely to get a gas dryer, gas water heater, and gas furnace
