Excellent game, but Ultimate is better

Second best Smash game. I would say it was the best if the skill floor wasn't so high. Playing against Falco alone can be a bad enough experience to quit. The stages also all have weird glitches or jank compared to Ultimate's better competitive stage selection.

There's way more than 5. Yoshi and Pikachu have won tournaments last year for instance. I would say there's 9 viable characters at least.

Yeah I was a super Melee fanboy for almost 2 decades but Ultimate does everything way better than Melee other than the minigames

Viable is not the same as good. A character being viable just means that you can become so overwhelmingly good with a character/the game that you can win, not that there isn't an enormous gap between the top options and the slot just below that.

Its my second favorite videogame of all time, and probably my most played videogame.

I love watching competitive Melee, highly recommend watching The Smash Brothers documentary on Youtube (covers the start of Melee through 2008, w/ a little 2013 thrown in), and also watch Metagame (higher production value, covers 2009 through 2016). Some of the best ESports documentaries out there.

Haven't gotten Slippi yet though (free online Melee w/ rollback netcode), I still much rather prefer playing Ultimate than Melee.

Sure, but that definition of viability includes everyone then. I'm talking about a definition of viable that's stronger than what you're suggesting, since the characters I've mentioned have actually won tournaments (minus Sheik and ICs).

Back when seeing different franchises knock into each other was still novel to me, it was a lot of fun and I'd play it for hours. Sometimes going for legitimate completion, sometimes Action Replay shenanigans and sometimes really just spending ages messing around and seeing how different things interact with each other.
It's the one I'd pick out if I just want to zero in on the gameplay. It's faster, moves have much more satisfying impacts.

Adventure mode was a great first step. I like SSBB too but I wish Subspace Emissary had bought the worlds together as well as the characters.

I don't give a shit about competitive play. I used to watch USF4 and UMVC3 and after they let Smash in, every now and then you'd get these really boring stretches when Smash would run overtime and you'd have to sit there waiting for the real game to come on.

it speaks volumes that melee has lived on while the other games faded into obscurity. wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens to ultimate, even though ultimate is an excellent game.
