Turkey considers withdrawing its troops from Syria, if Assad is willing to take control of the border regions and deal with the "terrorists", that being the Kurdish SDF. Seeing how President Biden has pretty much abandoned the Kurds in Syria, it will only be a matter of time before either Assad or Turkey takes their regions. If Turkey agrees, then this could threaten US presence in Syria, since the US operates in the middle east via Turkey. Turkey has also offered to be a mediator in Russia- Ukraine peace talks against US objections and outright refused to participate in sanctions against Russia, even applying to join BRICS+, a new economic alliance spearheaded by Russia and China. Thats why Turkey is so important to the US, that they were willing to tolerate their shenanigans for so many decades, even turning on another fellow NATO member in the Cyprus war, in which the US helped Turkey take the northern part of Cyprus. <cite>Sorades2 posted [p:970713469] in Turkey and...
