Bold of you to assume that Sony is going to make the ps6 backwards compatible. This is the same company that re-released the PS3 without backwards compatibility in part because people were just playing PS2 games on it and they wanted to promote their new titles.

Man that OG Playstation 3 weighed a ton, but it was awesome how it ran PS1+PS2 games (with rare exceptions) flawlessly and Linux I guess and then when Linux got removed people won a lawsuit and got 20 bucks if you cared to participate.

That is not accurate.

A company that held some parts of the PS2 build basically told Sony that they wanted a cut of every PS3 sold (since the backwards compatibility was just tossing some of the PS2 guts into the PS3). The amount they wanted was unreasonable, so Sony just decided to axe it instead.

Wait for the PS69.

That's atleast 5 years away though.

Do you have a link or something with those details, because this is legitimately the first time I'm hearing about it. Not doubting you, just curious to read more about it. Especially since Sony themselves stated the reason was that the PS3 library was now large enough that they wanted to prioritize both reducing cost and getting people to buy into these new franchises:

I might have combined two different stories into one with that. Doing some quick sleuthing the lawsuits about the EE happened in 2004.

Seems it was ultimately a cost cutting measure. Officially Sony said that they could cut the cost of the system by just having emulation software, but we all know how that went compared to just HAVING the damn Emotion Engine in it.

Games take 5 to 6 years to develop in addition to re releases and remakes and PC ports releasing a year after yea holding off is reasonable.

Have fun with that. People have been going "You should just wait for the Switch 2" for like 4 years already. I imagine the wait for a PS6 will be longer than that.

Getting a system late in its life is awesome. I did that with the PS4 and am probably still backlogged due to it. By then theres so many cheap titles....
