I watched the first one for the first time recently and thought it was pretty boring.

The way of the water is better in every way. The water creatures look much better artistically than the forest ones which just looked super plasticky

It is easily the best visuals in a movie ever. The second half is much better than the first. The family dynamics are cute. Some great action towards the end

There still isnt a great character in these movies. Jake sullivan and evil colonel dude are the one-two punch of worst protagonist-antahonist in a big budget movie. Jake sullivan somehow went from guy on a wheel chair to blue alien with alien family and still isn't interesting...but better than before. Neytiri sort of had a downgrade in personality (also zoe's distant second best alien). Sigourney weaver jr exists to smile and wave hands at beautiful cgi.

I get why these movies are popular. They arent anyones favorite movie ever but a good cinema experience...and depending on your setup at home, a good experience only at cinemas.

I may sound more negative on it than I actually am and the connection to nature and family worked much better here. I think I land at an 8/10. Though I will say I dont think James Cameron made a better movie than the annual capeshit that him and his fans complain about

Gotta hard disagree, found this one boring compared to the first. The stakes felt lower, plus there were way too many swimming with fish scenes that dragged the whole runtime down. Dont even get me started on the kids repeatedly being used as a plot device.

This one was just really dumb. Jake Sully left command to some other blue alien who undoubtedly kept fighting the human settlers, blowing up trains etc. Yet they sent their super special clone forces after a guy who stopped being a threat.

We're on different islands here. You're forest tribe and Im water tribe. The stakes felt lower because they are but thats not a bad thing, higher stakes doesnt mean better movie/story, I think media shouldnt be forced to up the stakes in every entry.

Yes there is a lot of swimming and fishes which did drag on, I wont disagree but it was pretty Ns fhe original avatar also had moments solely to show how much james cameron worked cgi workers

I also agree with the kids part but lets not act like both movies use the most basic plot tricks and the minimal amount of story required.

The dialogue in this movie is much better, maybe because theres less of it for more focus on beautiful fishies

I mean theyve literally been given 0 heroic oe good qualities. Cameron made this a black and white conflict. Hes never shown earth and they straight up say they are destroying shit for economic reasons. Pretty sure those are terrible people and cameron didnt put enough character work to make the humans anything other than terrible people

Its not unusual to hunt down terrorist leaders. We did the same to Osama bin Laden after all.

I do. The world rewarded james cameron for it, so why would he. At this point character development can only hurt the movies box office, general audiences go there for the pretty visuals

Im not even going to disagree with you. All Im saying is I enjoyed it and if someone doesnt have a great set up at home, they may not even enjoy it. If you watch it on a laptop or your phone you may not even like it at all

I'm confused on why they went with Quaritch. He fucked up BIG and was the primary reason humans were cast off the planet in the first place, despite their overwhelming technological advantage. Then of course as the second movie shows he once again cost them huge losses in dead avatars as well as their immortality.

That and he was the worst generic villain in a major movie. People complain about early mcu villains but all are better rhan him. Also randomly he had a kid and ofcourse that kid was stuck with thr people that killed him's family

Like the first, this is not a movie worth seeing on your laptop or 43 inch TCL tv.

See it in the theater or save your time. It's a beautiful visual experience with a C- plot to keep you rooting for something.

Just don't bother if you aren't going to go see it on a sick massive IMAX or whatever theater screen.

Cliche as it is, I like villains like the general guy cuz he feels like he could/does exist. Its rare to see the army portrayed negatively in movies so its refreshing to me.

I liked the stuff with his kid because aside from the plot role, it humanized both of them. Its a conflicted relationship.

I mean there are people who unironically think its awesome we slaughtered native Americans and took their land.

In fairness to the movie though in the extended cut their are some scenes that give you more context from the humans perspective that makes them look less bad. Still the bad guys but not nearly as cartoonishly evil as the theatric cut.

I may agree with this. Avatar 1 is not worth seeing at home. I do think this may be enjoyable enough at home, it has some fine enough plot moments but 1/3 of it is just kids playing with fish
