Men are traditionally conditioned to wear predictable, bland colors. Way too many neutral colors and office-acceptable colors like regular blue. You dont turn heads like that. People should wear more color and grow their hair out.

This is why I went with working out and expressing myself through big shoulders instead.

It's in part because bright colors are associated with femininity, and "feminine" expression from men is very much looked down upon in our society, in part because femininity itself is seen as lesser. It's why people hate trans women so much, but it's also why men's fashion is boring - cram yourselves into your tiny box of washed-out or dark colors like a real man and "enjoy" it.

Or tell them to go fuck themselves and dress as you please. That takes a lot of guts, of course.

90% of fashion is just being in shape and wearing stuff that fits. Especially male fashion. Not bodybuilder steroid huge, but if you have a flat belly, decent shoulders and some arm definition you look great in a simple T shirt + jeans.

Youre the one painting yourself into the box. Go multi-cultural. Get a kilt, lederhosen, yukata, kandura, barong, cowboy outfit, etc.

I think it's more of an effort thing. It takes effort that most men are just not willing to do.

I'm guilty of this myself. I'm fairly minimalist and have multiples of the same shit. I only really get wild with active wear stuff.

kilts might get acceptable but theyll never be cheap. A cheap one is like 5 yards of cotton. For a traditional one looking at a couple hundred (in the us) to start, my brother spent like $800 on a wool kilt that was 8 yards and had a bunch of high end touches, but hes big into the Highland games.

There are colors that have societal perceptions with masculinity, likewise with femininity.

Red might be seen more as gender neutral, but hot colors or bright pastels aren't always treated that way. We're only 15ish years out on that stuff being outright stigmatized as an indicator of sexuality. And not even fully out, at that.

you must not remember the late 80s early 90s. Neon colors were the shit and unisex. Pastels for men were popular in the preppy style of clothing. Was then about 20 years it was totally out of fashion.

Hyper color t-shirts were the tits and thats the hottest colors you can get!

I'm in the crowd that goes simple because day to day I'm not out to impress anyone. My sneakers stick out like a sore thumb but that's only because I like them regardless of what they're supposed to go with.

But when guys try to dress with the intent of suggesting they have an elevated fashion sense, that's just funny. Wasted all that time trying and it's something unoriginal.

It's crazy for sure. The fact that I'll still see people freaking out about the cut or fit of a shirt or the color or anything like that for being some sort of horrible sexuality indicator is waaaaaay too high.

Most men, including myself, don't care much about fashion. Its just function that matters.

In an office setting, there is honestly a very wide spectrum of mens fashion accessories you can embark on. And yeah, that can be 100% masculine in tone. In some ways, guys have more freedom in clothing expression than women, at least in the white collar professional setting.

Out of office, women will always win herethey can do whatever they want barring nudity.
